The local high school spring sports season is rapidly winding down now. On Saturday, we watched athletes from the boys' track and field and boys' tennis realms wrap up their respective campaigns.

For us, that leaves just four area athletic teams still rolling through the postseason: Tuscola baseball, St. Joseph-Ogden softball, Argenta-Oreana softball and Mahomet-Seymour softball.

So there's still plenty of time for excitement to cap an already successful 2017-18 academic year. But what all of this also means is that it's about time for our annual All-Area packages.

Highlighting the best and brightest across our spring sports, we'll spend June taking a look at those who proved most impressive in their ventures between February and the present.

We do have a tentative schedule for when you can read these All-Area features. Keep in mind, circumstances outside our control can wind up changing when these packages run, but we have a good idea for each sport's representation.

Here's the slate, as of now:

Girls' soccer: Sunday, June 10

Girls' track and field: Tuesday, June 12

Softball: Sunday, June 17

Boys' track and field: Tuesday, June 19

Boys' tennis: Thursday, June 21

Baseball: Sunday, June 24

For each of these packages, you can expect an Athlete of the Year story, as well as photos and capsules surrounding our chosen first-team stars.

There also will be final rankings in baseball, softball and girls' soccer, in addition to statistics and lists of other All-Area nominations.

We've had local coaches sending in their choices for All-Area honorees. Through that process, as well as by looking at accomplishments compiled over the course of the spring, we'll determine which youngsters are most deserving of All-Area status.

In addition to all of this, we'll have our preps year in review on Sunday, July 1. We'll determine our School of the Year through an exhaustive process noting various achievements between August and now, while also providing some flashbacks to the year that was.

Sounds like a great way to cap off yet another wonderful prep sports season.
