Wednesday's prep highlights: Blue Devils blast Tigers

VILLA GROVE — Madison Burwell belted a pair of home runs and drove in four runs and Kyleigh Block legged out a two-bagger to lead Villa Grove softball to an 11-2 nonconference home win over Urbana.

Hurler Jordyn Ray pitched a complete game for the Blue Devils (1-3), limiting the Tigers (0-2) to five hits and fanning 13 Urbana batters along the way.

Both Tiger runs were driven in by senior shortstop Erin Wright, while pitcher Allison Deck was pinned with the loss, surrendering 11 runs, 10 hits and four walks during six innings of work.

Hawks rally on Redskins. The Villa Grove/Heritage baseball team rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth at home Wednesday to humble Sullivan 5-3.

Carson Howard finished the afternoon with three RBI for the Hawks (4-2), while Noah Davison smashed a double to account for the team's fourth RBI.

Tim Lawyer was the offensive star for the Redskins (1-2), belting a double and two singles.

Tigers fall at home. The Westville baseball team dropped an 8-3 decision in a home non-league tilt against Casey-Westfield.

The Tigers (0-6) took an early 1-0 on a wild pitch by hurler A.J. Stepina and received a pair of hits by Hayden Davis and Cyrus Dougherty.

Knights earn 1st win. The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond softball team recorded its first win of the season with 3-2 victory over Shelbyville after 12 innings on Wednesday night, receiving six quality innings from hurler Shelby Frederick, who struck out five.

Molly Day and Kirsten Corum each notched an RBI to set the tone for the Knights (1-1).
