Friday's prep highlights: Reifsteck's gems pace Warriors to win

In baseball

Deer Creek-Mackinaw 9, Fisher 0. Jake Cochran connected for the only hit the Bunnies (0-16) could muster on the road in the Heart of Illinois Conference defeat.

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 25, Fieldcrest 8. The Falcons (11-2) crammed 25 runs on 20 hits into five innings, easily taking care of business in the HOIC road tilt. Hunter Brewer and Wade Burton each homered for GCMS in its sixth straight victory, while Burton drove in a team-high seven runs. Cade Elliott and Braden Roesch each also plated a trio of runs.

LeRoy 11, Tri-Valley 2. Colin Meyer accounted for three of 11 hits for the Panthers (13-3), notching a double and two RBI in the HOIC victory on the road. Nate Sammer (double, RBI) and Max Buckles (double) both added a pair of hits for LeRoy, which has won nine of its last 10 games.

Iroquois West 11, Ridgeview 1. Tibaldo Alvarez brought in two runs on two hits, while Jack McMillan plated another on 3-for-3 hitting to lead the Raiders (6-5) to a non-league victory at home. Ethan Martinez gave up just one run on three hits, fanning five and walking two for Iroquois West. Conner Robbins singled in the lone run for the Mustangs.

Warrensburg-Latham 6, Sullivan 5. Drew Rogers scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning to tie the game at 5 for the Redskins (2-13), but the visitors couldn't hang on and fell in walk-off fashion for a Central Illinois Conference loss. Dalton Rogers and Austin Scott each stole a base and drove in two runs.

In softball

Deer Creek-Mackinaw 10, Fisher 0. Sidney Hood, Sydney Eichelberger, Shelbee Owens and Kylee Bishop each connected for a hit, but the Bunnies (12-6) were blanked on the road against their Heart of Illinois Conference foe for their third straight loss.

Fieldcrest 7, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 6. The Falcons (9-5) came close in HOIC road action, but had their seven-game winning streak snapped after giving up four crucial runs in the sixth inning. Maci Bielfeldt and Madi Eberle each fired two-run homers, while Lauren Leonard supplied another two RBI.

Hoopeston Area 17, Iroquois West 1. A 15-hit day for the Cornjerkers (12-9) gave way to a blowout nonconference home win, as Audra Funk and Payton Small tallied three RBI and a triple each. A two-hit, one-RBI outing from Jacey Stiers paced the Raiders (0-15).

LeRoy 14, Tri-Valley 5. The Panthers (11-7) turned in a trio of four-run innings, including the opening frame, and glided to a HOIC victory at home that marks a three-game winning streak. Charly Warlow went 4 for 5 and drove in three runs, while Tiffany Bargmann and Hailie Hahn also each notched a team-high three RBI.

Tuscola 3, Shelbyville 0. Behind nine strikeouts and just two hits allowed, Kaitlyn Reifsteck pitched the Warriors (20-1) to a complete-game shutout in Central Illinois Conference road play. Ashton Smith notched the lone RBI on a groundout that brought home Sofia James, who stole two bases.

Warrensburg-Latham 14, Sullivan 1. Addison Darush plated a run in the top of the first inning with a double, but the Redskins (1-5) were unable to slow down their CIC opponent in a five-inning road loss. Irie Dulin finished with two hits, including a double.
