Tuesday's prep highlights: Sarver's slam keys Maroons victory

In baseball

Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 2, Hoopeston Area 1. Runs were difficult to come by, but the Blue Devils (18-5) managed to get just enough on their home field against a Vermilion Valley Conference foe. Kaj Stanford and Chase Rademacher each tallied two hits and drove in a run apiece. The Cornjerkers (10-16) received a pair of hits from Lucas Hofer and Cameron Flint, who plated the lone run.

Champaign Central 9, Urbana 4. Joel Sarver squeezed two hits, including a grand slam, into a rain-shortened five-inning win for the Maroons (19-8) over the Tigers (2-14) on the road in Big 12 Conference play. Isaiah Jackson also hit in all three of his at-bats with a double and two RBI for Central. Jack Welbes and Miller Calhoun each notched three hits and drove in two runs for Urbana.

Salt Fork 3, Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman 1. The Storm (15-2) broke a 1-all tie with a run in the third inning and plated another for insurance in the sixth inning to win the VVC game at home. Payton Taylor drove in two runs, while Andy Musson tallied another RBI for Salt Fork. The Buffaloes (8-8) received one hit apiece from Cale Steinbaugh, Garrett Latoz and Logan Dawson.

In softball

Centennial 14, Champaign Central 5 .Addison Archer homered and drove in two runs, while Leah Luchinski (3 for 5, three RBI), Hannah Luchinski (three RBI) and Ashlyn Perry (4 for 5, two runs) supplied quality contributions for the Chargers (8-12) in the Big 12 Conference road win. Rachel Burdette's two hits led the Maroons (7-11), who received an RBI from four different players.

Salt Fork 7, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 5. The host Storm (15-5) outlasted a four-run rally from the visiting Buffaloes (16-7) in the seventh inning and stayed undefeated through 13 games in Vermilion Valley Conference play. Carlee Richardson keyed the victory with a 3-for-3 outing that featured three runs and an RBI, while Mackenzie Russell added two hits and two RBI for Salt Fork. Taylor Stal's 3-for-4 performance at the plate drove in a team-high two runs for G-RF.

In girls' soccer

Mahomet-Seymour 4, Mattoon 0. Maddy Wade and Cayla Koerner supplied a 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs (18-1) in their Apollo Conference road victory, as each netted a pair of goals with Koerner tacking on an assist. Noelle Bailey also tallied two assists in the game that was called due to stormy weather five minutes into the second half.

Monticello 2, Olympia 0. A goal each from Milly Machinchy and Mia Maupin pushed the Sages (8-12-1) to an Illini Prairie Conference victory at home.

Normal Community 7, Urbana 0. Estefanny Ruiz, America Moreno Duran and Macy Wirtz all put shots on goal, but the Tigers (3-8-5) were unable to break through in a Big 12 Conference loss at home.

Normal West 3, Centennial 0. Jordan DeLuce made six saves and Sarah Cleveland stopped another four shots, but the Chargers (5-10-1) were unable to dent the twine themselves against their Big 12 foe at home.

In boys' track and field

At Champaign. Centennial prevailed in the Twin City Meet meet behind event wins from Thomas Green (shot put, discus), Eldrick Surheyao (110-meter hurdles), Luke Manolakes (800 run) and Gabe Olaivar (400 dash). Kai Baumgartner added a trio of wins for second-place Champaign Central in the 300 hurdles, long jump and triple jump, while Mike Mboyo won the 100 and 200 dashes for third-place Urbana. Henry Kraatz (1,600 run) and Aryan Lalwani (3,200 run) each won races for Uni High.
