Saturday's prep highlights: Central baseball wins Charlie Due Tournament

In boys' tennis

Class 1A Uni High Sectional

lllineks thrive. Backed by a doubles title from the pairing of Arjun Tangella and Zachary Donnini, Uni High won a Class 1A team sectional title with 27 points, edging runner-up Centennial. Samuel Li and Krishna Subbiah finished fourth in doubles for the Illineks, while Akash Pardeshi placed third in singles. Jared Thomas from Centennial won a sectional title in singles play, defeating Wade Baillon from St. Thomas More in the championship match.

Charlie Due Tournament

Champaign Central 6, Morton 5. Cole Jones and Sam Chapman each drove in two runs as the host Maroons (25-9) prevailed in the championship game of their own tournament. Drew Adams (run, RBI) and Drew Barringer (RBI) also contributed.

Normal U-High 11, Rantoul 3. The Eagles (16-13) fell behind 3-0 and couldn't recover in a third-place game defeat. Adam Crites went 1 for 3 with two RBI to pace Rantoul.

Rantoul 8, Pontiac 2. Casey Dillman threw a complete game and went 2 for 4 with an RBI to spark the Eagles to a win in their tournament opener on Saturday. Nolan Roseman and Hayden Cargo also had two hits and an RBI for Rantoul.

Normal U-High 5, Mahomet-Seymour 2. Ben Greenberger had an RBI double, but the Bulldogs (16-9-2) couldn't muster much more offense in their second straight loss.Centennial Round RobinCentennial 7, Mt. Zion 3.Joe Stilger and Tayvion Davis each drove in two runs for the Chargers in their first game on Saturday, while Eric Hall and Maxwell Wallace each added two hits.

East Peoria 6, Centennial 5. Nolan DeVriese tallied three hits and an RBI to lead the Chargers (18-14), but they allowed two ninth-inning runs to drop the day's second game.NontournamentTaylorville 26, Clinton 12.Garrett Wayne and Braden Cross each hit home runs for Clinton (8-11) in a five-inning nonconference loss.

Triad 9, Rantoul 5. Lexi Sherrick and Jada Mosley each had two RBI, but it wasn't enough for Rantoul (11-18) in its second tournament game.

Taylorville 12, Triad 3. Madisyn Walton led Rantoul in its tournament opener with two hits and two RBI.

Nontournament

Normal U-High 2, Clinton 1. Zoie Polen and Kianna Easton each had a hit for the Maroons (8-17) in a road nonconference loss.
