Monday's prep highlights: Bohlen helps Bulldogs through regional quarterfinal

In baseball

Class 3A

Mahomet-Seymour Regional

Mahomet-Seymour 10, Urbana 3. Rick Bohlen recorded three hits and three RBI out of the No. 9 spot as the fifth-seeded Bulldogs (17-9-2) advanced to Wednesday's 6 p.m. semifinal versus No. 4 Charleston by outlasting the No. 11 Tigers (3-19). Nate McFall and Grant Harvey each added two RBI for M-S. Jake Welbes struck a three-run homer for Urbana's offense.

Mt. Zion 7, Rantoul 3. Nolan Roseman swatted a two-run double in the fifth inning, but the eighth-seeded Eagles (16-14) largely were stymied by the seventh-seeded Braves in a quarterfinal.

Paris Regional

Paris 8, Danville 2. Trevor Davis singled home a run for the No. 10 Vikings (8-14), who later scored on a balk but couldn't get anything else going in a quarterfinal loss to a ninth-seeded enemy.

Bloomington Regional

Pontiac 7, Clinton 3. A five-run second inning from the No. 7 seed did in the ninth-seeded Maroons (8-12), who received two hits and three RBI from Michael Oswald in the quarterfinal loss.


Champaign Central 7, Bloomington 6. Chris Wurl singled in a run with two out in the bottom of the seventh to give the host Maroons (26-9) a walk-off win in their regular-season finale. Cole Jones added three walks and two runs scored for Central, which garnered two hits apiece from Wurl and Isaiah Jackson.

Class 3A

Mahomet-Seymour Regional

Effingham 11, Champaign Central 1. Lauryn McArthur knocked in the lone run for the No. 11 Maroons (8-20) in a quarterfinal setback versus a fifth-seeded opponent.

Mattoon 8, Centennial 3. Leah Luchinski, Hannah Luchinski and Nini Liong all posted one RBI for the No. 7 Chargers (13-15), who fell to their sixth-seeded foe in quarterfinal play.

Rochester Regional

Clinton 18, Springfield Lanphier 1. Kianna Easton's four RBI and another three from Camdyn Alsup guided the No. 5 Maroons (9-17) into Wednesday's 4:30 p.m. semifinal with No. 4 Springfield.
