Kroner: All eyes on Chrisman
Prep sports coordinator Fred Kroner's thoughts about Chrisman's unranked boys' basketball team as it enters super-sectional play Tuesday night (7:30) in Class 1A against Deer Creek-Mackinaw at Illinois State University:
The Cardinals (27-5) are an interesting team, with one double-figure scorer (Cody Owen). However, five other squad members are averaging between 5.8 and 9.4 points per game. Owen is one of four squad members capable of hitting consistently from three-point range. If coach Greg Gisinger's squad – which has won 13 of its last 14 games – can correct the free throw difficulties and penchant for turnovers that surfaced in the sectional, it can find itself in the Final Four in three more days and assured of its first state trophy in 34 years. If you believe in comparing teams based on common opponents, Chrisman defeated a Fisher team by 27 points in the sectional that Deer Creek-Mackinaw beat by eight points in mid-January at home.
