In boys' basketball

Centennial 41, Thornton 40. A night after a lopsided loss to rival Urbana, the host Chargers looked to be on their way to another defeat.

Thornton led 32-20 with eight minutes to play.

But led by Michael Finke's seven points, Centennial outscored Thornton 21-8 to earn the victory.

"It wasn't looking good for three quarters," Centennial coach Tim Lavin said. "To get a win like that was good for us."

Phillip Wright scored the winning basket on an inbounds play with 3.8 seconds left.

Thornton missed a halfcourt shot at the buzzer, preserving Centennial's win.

Taylen Alexander and Finke led the Chargers with 12 points each.

"It was a group effort in the fourth quarter," Lavin said.

Chicago Orr 70, Danville 57. The host Vikings fell behind by 11 at intermission and couldn't cut into the margin in the second half.

Donte Ingram led the Vikings with 21 points, and Dennis Hightower added 16. Deshaun King led Orr with 20.

Unity 63, Judah Christian 55. Taylor Black and Aaron Larson combined for 50 points for the visiting Rockets. Black, who hit three three-pointers, led Unity with 26.

Malik Williams had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Tribe, which dropped to 6-4. Ethan Chitty added 10.

At Watseka. Maroa-Forsyth held the Warriors to 14 points in the first three quarters of a 43-25 win at the Watseka Tournament.

In other action, Beecher edged Hoopeston Area 61-55. Ross Lange, Daniel Lawson and Mason Layden hit double figures for the Cornjerkers.

In girls' basketball

Centennial 53, Urbana 10. The Chargers shut out the visiting Tigers in the fourth quarter and limited them to two points in two other quarters.

Katelynn Martinez led Centennial with 12 points. She had four assists and four steals. Jasmine Kyler added 10 points for the Chargers.

LeRoy 65, Uni High 50. Molly Marcum just missed a triple-double for the visiting Panthers. The senior scored 19 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had seven assists.

Stephanie Howell had 10 points and nine rebounds for LeRoy. Lauren Russell scored 12 points, and Ashley Walker added 11.

Jamie Blue had 23 points for Uni High. Emma Hoyer scored 14 points and had 13 rebounds for the Illineks. Jaki Vipond added 13 points.

Champaign Central 56, Mattoon 46. Cheyenne Hedrington scored 11 points and had eight rebounds for the host Maroons. Johynn-a Evans and Jakeenya Evans each added 10 points.

Iroquois West 45, Wilmington 20. The host Raiders jumped to a 30-9 lead at halftime and cruised to their 10th win. Jen Cox led Iroquois West with 10 points.

St. Joseph-Ogden 50, Reed-Custer 22. Josey Fruhling scored 18 points and Hannah Gaylord added 14 for the visiting Spartans. The pair combined for 16 rebounds.

Fisher 49, PBL 48. Elyssa Browning hit the winning basket with 12 seconds left for the host Bunnies. It was her second bucket in the game.

Caitlin Cole led Fisher with 20 points. She had 10 rebounds and five blocked shots.

Kandace Hofer scored 14 points for Paxton-Buckley-Loda. Cheyenne Weber added 11.

At Champaign. Schlarman went 3-0 to win the Judah Shootout, holding Chrisman scoreless in the second half of a 45-5 win. Laura Gross led the Hilltoppers against the Cardinals with 10 points.

Schlarman beat Judah Christian 60-46. Gross was one of four Hilltoppers in double figures with 14. Janelle Marion scored 12, Tanna Petersak had 11 and Ella Black added 10.

Amber Meyer scored 22 points and Abby Smith added 16 in Tri-County's 65-31 win against the hosts.

Maddie Johnson led Judah with 12 points.

Meyer had 15 points and Smith scored 11 in a 57-11 win against Chrisman.

South Piatt 56, Decatur Christian 19. The Wildcats limited the visitors to six combined points in the middle two quarters. Sabrina Hinton-Tucker led South Piatt with 16 points.

Eureka 63, Rantoul 26. The Eagles matched the visitors in the fourth quarter, 12-12. It was the rest of the game that was the problem.

Eureka outscored Rantoul 45-10 in the first half and cruised to the nonconference victory.

Hannah Wascher led the Eagles with 12 points. Nobody else scored more than four.

In wrestling

At Springfield. Centennial's Austen Schott (113 pounds), Darren Wynn (126) and Archie Williams (182) won titles at the Joe Bee Invite. Deonte Adams (195) took second for the Chargers, who finished third.

Schott, Wynn and Williams remain undefeated this season.

At Cumberland. Prairie Central's Nick Kauffman won the 113-pound championship, and the Hawks edged Herrin for the team title in the Cumberland Invite.

Prairie Central had four other wrestlers reach the finals.

Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac's Antonio Alvarez won the 106-pound title.

The Comets finished 10th.

In swimming & diving

At Bloomington. Champaign Central's Blake Lehmann won two individual races and swam a leg on two winning relays, helping the Maroons take the Bloomington Invite title.

Lehmann won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.35 seconds, edging teammate Sam Stewart. Lehmann won the 100 backstroke in 55.99 and helped the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays to victories.

Stewart and Evan Miller swam on both winning relay teams. Stewart took the 100 butterfly in 52.25.

Central scored 302 points, 40 better than Hinsdale South. Centennial was fourth with 215 points. Danville was ninth, and Urbana finished 10th.
