Teams of the Week: Centennial boys lead way
CENTENNIAL BOYS' BASKETBALL
The Chargers secured city bragging rights — at least until next month — handing visiting Central its first Big 12 loss, 61-60. Devin Carter and Taylen Alexander scored in double figures, but it was Dustin Walls' late basket that made the difference.
VILLA GROVE GIRLS' BASKETBALL
The Blue Devils, who have struggled since winning their opener, snapped a seven-game losing streak in the LOVC quarterfinals as coach Dan Sappenfield's team rallied from an early deficit to beat a Heritage team coached by his sister, Lisa Boyer.
CENTENNIAL BOYS' SWIMMING
The Chargers sunk Urbana in a dual meet, winning nine of 12 events and placing second in 10. Senior Gabe Omo-Osagie and freshman Scott Wierschem each won two individual events. Counting relays, 11 Chargers had at least one win.
SALT FORK GIRLS' BASKETBALL
Fifth-seeded Storm advanced to the Vermilion County tourney semifinals by virtue of a win against fourth-seeded Georgetown-Ridge Farm. Senior Hunter Marsh was the top scorer, but nine squad members contributed to the team's 34-point total.
