All-stars to play at GCMS

GIBSON CITY — Basketball season is not over for various standouts from the Sangamon Valley and the Heart of Illinois conferences.

The league's top players are scheduled to renew their postseason rivalry in Saturday's all-star series at the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School gymnasium.

The girls' all-star game will begin at 6 p.m. The boys' contest will start at about 7:30 p.m. There will be a dunk contest between the games.

The SVC girls' team will be coached by St. Joseph-Ogden coach Brain Hatfield, who has five of his Spartans on the 13-player roster.

SJ-O's Brian Brooks and CPCI's Kevin Long will share the coaching duties for the SVC boys' all-star team. They each have two players among the 15 chosen to participate. GCMS' cheerleading team will perform.

The games will be broadcast by WGCY, 106.3-FM. Additionally, three Heart of Illinois teams will be honored for their postseason success: the LeRoy girls' basketball team, the Fisher boys' basketball team and the Fieldcrest boys' basketball team.
