Friday's prep highlights: Rajic shines at state swim meet
In state swimming & diving
At Evanston. Urbana’s Gabi Rajic had the best finishes Friday at the IHSA state swimming and diving meet, placing 14th in the 100-yard freestyle and 17th in the 50 free. Rajic was timed in 52.59 seconds in the 100 free and 24.10 in the 50 free.
Centennial’s Audrey Rodawig was 18th in the 100 butterfly (57.30) and Danville’s Kristin Verkler was 19th (57.44).
Rodawig placed 33rd in the 50 free (24.62).
Verkler finished 28th in the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 11,02 seconds).
Champaign Central’s Katherine Penwell was 35th in the 500 free (5:26.21) and 39th in the 200 free (2:00.16).
Central’s Clare Ramsey was 48th in diving.
Centennial’s 200 free relay of Sara Regan, Remy Miller, Emma Garcia-Canga and Rodawig was 36th in 1:42.32.
The Maroons’ 200 medley relay team of Penwell, Sara Fundator, Sarah McGill and Margaret Goldsmith was 40th in 1:55.47.

Blue Star Classic
Central 56, M-S 54. Laura Litchfield, who scored 21 points, drove the lane and made a floater as time expired for the Maroons at St. Thomas More. Mahomet-Seymour junior Maggie Schmidt tied the game on the previous possession with a three-pointer. Airiana Smith chipped in 11 points for Central.
Danville 35, B-H 21. Breanna Keys scored a game-high 15 points, including three three-pointers, to lead the Vikings at St. Thomas More. Bismarck-Henning was paced by Abby Bergman, who scored 10 points.
Rantoul 40, Monticello 21. Hannah Wascher scored 21 points for the Eagles (2-0) at Monticello. The Sages got eight points and eight rebounds from Layne Buzan and eight boards from Sarah Wells.
Springfield Southeast 73, Centennial 68. The Chargers trailed at halftime, and their comeback fell short
St. Thomas More 67, Urbana 28. Randa Harshbarger had 15 points and eight steals for the Sabers, who got 15 points apiece from sisters Erica and Lexi Wallen.
Oakwood Comet Classic
Urbana Uni 44, Chrisman 41. Emma Hoyer poured in a game-high 27 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Illineks, who got eight points from Juliana Trach. The Cardinals were led by Sarah Ellis and Shelby Warner, who scored 14 and 10 points, respectively.
G-RF 42, Blue Ridge 38. Maya Green scored 15 points to lead three Georgetown-Ridge Farm players in double figures. Brittany Hay and Callan Hall each scored 11 points for the Buffaloes. The Knights were paced by Jamison Brandt, who scored 17 points. Bailey Clancy added nine points.
Heritage 47, Westville 35. Desi Westerfield led the Hawks with 14 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Jennifer Lannon contributed nine points and six rebounds for Heritage, which led 26-20 at intermission. The Tigers received 10 points from Ashley Hoffman and eight points from Ji’Cee Lacey.
Lady Falcon and Bunnies Tip-off Classic
SJ-O 52, Villa Grove 21. All-tournament selection Bailey Trimble scored a game-high 17 points to lead St. Joseph-Ogden in the championship game at Gibson City. The Spartans, who led 32-9 at halftime, received 13 points from Ashley Landis. SJ-O’s Ashley Beals also earned a spot on the all-tourney team.
Iroquois West 35, PBL 34. All-tourney selection Morgan Small scored a team-high nine points to lift the Raiders in the third-place game against Paxton-Buckley-Loda at Gibson City. IW’s Taylor Cultra also secured a spot on the all-tourney team. The Panthers received nine points from all-tournament selection Amanda Ypya.
Fisher 39, GCMS 18. All-tourney pick Caitlin Cole scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Bunnies (3-1) in the fifth-place game against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at Fisher High School. Hannah Varner had seven points and eight boards, and Olivia Heffernan had seven assists and four steals.
Schlarman 52, Dwight 45. Janelle Marion scored 19 points and Sydne Bryant added 16 to lead the Hilltoppers (2-2) to seventh place at Fisher High School.

H.R.K Homeschool 33, AOC 19. Kami Taber scored a team-high six points for Arthur-Okaw Christian.

AOC 62, Quentin Road 51. Austin Helmuth connected on five three-pointers, leading Arthur-Okaw Christian. Wes Henningsen added 12 points in the victory at Rockford.
AOC 80, Trinity 66. Adam Beachy keyed the victory with a team-high 17 points.
