Friday's highlights: M-S throws scare into U-High

The Bulldogs took the state’s third-ranked Class 3A team to the wire before losing on the road. Brad HeRrmann had a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds) for M-S (2-5), and teammate Sam Hohlfelder scored 13 points. Ohio State commitment Keita Bates-Diop scored 14 points for the Pioneers (7-1).

St. Joseph-Ogden 68, Iroquois West 33. Leading by nine points at halftime, the Spartans outscored the Raiders 19-2 in the third period to take command in a home win. Louis Acklin, who shot 9 of 12 from the field, scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds for SJ-O. Corbin Hesterberg added 14 points and four steals. Keaton Zirkle paced IW with 12 points.

Salt Fork 53, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 35. The Storm rolled to a road victory behind Max Stutsman’s 21 points. Kyle Coburn led the Buffaloes with 15 points.

Chrisman 57, Oakwood 42. Ty Bolen scored 16 of his team-high 18 points in the second half to help the Cardinals break away to a road win. Kyle Elliott (25) and Skyler Slade (16) accounted for all but one of the Comets’ points.

Tuscola 63, Villa Grove 47. Sharom Shabrou and Dustin Haake each had 16 points and seven rebounds to lift the Warriors to a home win. Brandon Koberline led the Blue Devils with 18 points.

Bismarck-Henning 51, Schlarman 47. Andy Bott scored nine of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to propel the Blue Devils to a road win. Austin Calhoun had 18 points for the Hilltoppers.

Prairie Central 73, Rantoul 65. The Hawks outscored Rantoul 20-8 in the second quarter and held on for a home victory. Ed Shafer and Addison Bounds each scored 23 points for Prairie Central. Joshua Oliveras hit four three-pointers and scored 21 points for the Eagles.

Westville 44, Hoopeston Area 27. Kyle Brazas (11 points) and Layn White (10) led a balanced attack that carried the Tigers to a home win.

Milford 63, Armstrong-Potomac 54. Milford broke away to a 23-8 first-quarter lead en route to a home win. Jeff Cann and Josh Killion scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, for the Bearcats. Dentler Loschen sank five three-pointers and scored 18 points for A-P.

Normal Calvary Christian 41, DeLand-Weldon 38. DeLand-Weldon led 14-7 after one quarter but couldn’t hold off a Calvary Christian comeback in a road loss. Dee Woods scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for the Eagles.

Danville First Baptist 83, Calvary Home Fires 43. Jonathan Garver poured in 43 points for First Baptist, matching the opponent’s total, in a road win.

In girls’ basketball
Champaign Central 76, Hyde Park 66. Laura Litchfield scored 21 points to lead the Maroons to victory at the Whitney Young Chi-town Showdown. Also scoring in double figures for Central (5-3) were Meme Evans (16), Danyae Schoffner (12) and Airiana Smith (10).

Decatur Lutheran 45, Urbana Uni High 38. Locked in a 28-28 tie through three periods, the host Illineks were outscored 17-10 in the fourth. Emma Hoyer racked up 19 points, 13 rebounds and five blocked shots for Uni.
