Tuesday's prep highlights: Plecki, Koerner spark Sabers

Vermilion County Tournament
Bismarck-Henning 58, Armstrong-Potomac 28. Austin Toler scored 13 of his 20 points in the first half to propel the Blue Devils to a 35-9 lead. Wilde Garowski added 13 points for B-H. Wade Rogers paced A-P with 12 points.

DeLand-Weldon 44, Buckley Christ Lutheran 31. Garrett Duff nailed four three-pointers en route to 12 points in a home victory. Slater Scheurich had 16 points to lead BCL, which was outscored 25-9 in the first half.

Iroquois West 49, Donovan 47. Keaton Zirkle made a three-pointer with 3.8 seconds left to help the Raiders rally from a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Zirkle, who hit three threes, finished with 24 points and Austin Zirkle chipped in 15 for IW, which survived a halfcourt heave for the win.

Charleston 79, Rantoul 65. James Coleman and Johnny Jones scored 14 points apiece, but the host Eagles couldn’t overcome a 28-11 deficit after the first quarter.  

St. Thomas More 52, Momence 43. Mike Plecki’s 22 points and Joshua Koerner’s 14 helped the host Sabers, who shot 14 of 24 in the first half while racing to a 32-24 lead.

Arthur-Lovington 58, Atwood-Hammond 37. Andy Webb hit four three-pointers and finished with 18 points in a road loss.

Heritage 65, Cerro Gordo 61. In the fourth quarter, Chance Lemmon had 10 points and John Taylor chipped nine to rally the Hawks, who rallied from a 48-41 deficit. Lemmon finished with 25 points, and Taylor had 20. Nathan Lovekamp (16), Josh Hayes (15) and Cole Blickensderfer led a balanced Broncos attack.

Maroa-Forsyth 65, Clinton 32. Colten Reeves hit two threes and finished with eight points, but the Maroons couldn’t overcome a 36-14 halftime deficit on the road.

Unity 58, Sullivan 46. Matt Restad had 25 points — including 8 of 8 from the free throw line, all in the second half — to pace the host Rockets. Andy Brown had 15 points to lead the Redskins.

Warrensburg-Latham 73, Argenta-Oreana 32. Keegan McHood had eight points, but the Bombers trailed by 30 at halftime.

Clifton Central 65, Watseka 64. Gabe Duby (16 points), Austin Hasselbring (13) and Jake Lyznicki (10) paced the Warriors in an overtime loss at Clifton.

Decatur Lutheran 81, Urbana Uni 36. Taharka Baraka had 18 points and nine rebounds, but it wasn’t enough against LSA, which scored 56 points combined in the second and fourth quarters.

Arcola 42, Villa Grove 32. Nick Hudson had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and the Purple Riders pulled away after a slow first quarter (outscored 5-4).

Tri-County 47, Bement 46. Wes Motley had 14 points to lead the Titans, who trailed 20-16 at halftime. Wyatt Flesner (13 points) and Tyler Wright (11) each hit three three-pointers for the Titans. Connor Gross led the Bulldogs with 17 points.

Blue Ridge 71, Flanagan-Cornell 69. Michael Plunk scored 33 points as the Knights rallied from a 45-40 deficit entering the fourth quarter and won in double overtime. Clint O’Neal had nine points and 15 rebounds for Blue Ridge (12-6).

Arthur Okaw Christian 53, Bloomington Cornerstone 44. Wes Henningsen had 14 points, including a pair of three-pointers, for the Conquering Riders. Isaiah Lowry also hit double figures with 10 points.

In girls’ basketball
Fieldcrest 66, Blue Ridge 43. Gabby Pearl (22 points) and Jamison Brandt (14) scored in double figures for the Knights, who were outscored 34-13 in the first half.

Judah Christian 56, Danville First Baptist 21. Kristina Lee and Leslee Chambers had double-doubles to lift the host Tribe. Lee had 31 points and 10 steals, and Chambers added 19 points and 10 steals. Mailin Davis led DFB with nine points.

Schlarman 53, Covington (Ind.) 48. Sierra Bell had 27 points and Janelle Marion added 15 to lead the Hilltoppers, who held the visitors to three second-quarter points.

Arthur Okaw Christian 32, Bloomington Cornerstone 28. Kami Taber had 12 points and Hanna Erwin chipped in 10 (three three-pointers) to lead the visiting Conquering Riders.

In wrestling
At St. Joseph. Corbin Wolken (106 pounds), Shane Skinner (113) and Skyler Pumphrey (145) won by pinfall as St. Joseph-Ogden beat Bismarck-Henning 53-18. Jesse Jennings won by pin at 285 for the Blue Devils.

At Normal U-High. Kyle Heller (145) pinned both of his opponents, and Mahomet-Seymour beat Rantoul (78-3) and Normal U-High (54-27) as the Bulldogs improved to 15-6.

At Champaign. Joey Schott (113), Samuel Black (120), Darren Wynn (152) and Austin Maltbia (188) pinned their opponents as the Chargers beat Monticello 45-34. Logan Knisley (106) and Zach Armstrong (220) won by pin for the Sages.

At GCMS/Fisher. Dylan Donner pinned his opponent in 43 seconds as the Falcons beat Danville 54-18.

At Eureka. John Kupferschmid (182) pinned his opponent in 37 seconds, and Prairie Central went on to beat Eureka 37-32, the Hawks winning six of eight contested matches.
In a 45-27 loss to Olympia, Alex Rhoda (195) and Sam Schuler (152) won by pin for the Hawks.
