Big 12: Centennial misses opportunity

NORMAL — Centennial jumped out to a 14-7 lead after one quarter but struggled to score thereafter in a 52-37 Big 12 Conference boys’ basketball loss to Normal West on Friday night. The loss kept the Chargers from gaining ground on first place.
Dedric Byrd led Centennial with 12 points. Illini commitment Michael Finke and Khalil Toombs added eight points apiece.

Decatur MacArthur 57, Urbana 55. The Tigers were outscored 16-6 in the second quarter and saw their comeback bid fall short in a home defeat. Donald McKinley scored 17 points and Marcus Catchings had 12 for Urbana, which outrebounded the Generals 40-28. Conner Gremer led the Tigers on the boards with 10.

Decatur Eisenhower 57, Champaign Central 48. The Maroons fell behind by 20 points after one quarter and couldn’t recover in a home loss. Isiah Smith scored 16 points for Central, one more than teammate Chris Hutchison. Luke Beesley contributed seven rebounds and two blocked shots for the Maroons.

Bloomington 55, Danville 43. The Vikings were outscored 18-7 at the foul line in losing at home. Kylen Butler paced Danville with 12 points, while Marcus Merriweather added nine.
