Zindars advances; Raiders win

NORMAL — Armstrong-Potomac junior Morgan Zindars is one of four qualifiers for today’s Class 1A three-point shooting finals. She hit 9 of 15 attempts during Thursday’s 32-person competition at Illinois State University’s Redbird Arena and tied for the fourth spot.

In a shootout featuring 10 additional three-pointers, Zindars nailed five shots to secure the final qualifying berth. The finals today will begin at about 1:30 p.m.

Also in Class 1A, LeRoy senior teammates Lauren Russell and Shannon Steffen finished tied for sixth and tied for 28th, respectively. Russell hit eight three-point shots. Steffen made three.

In Class 2A, the lone area representative was St. Joseph-Ogden senior Bailey Trimble. She made six three-point attempts and tied for 10th.

Raiders move on. Keaton Zirkle scored a team-high  20 points, leading host Iroquois West to a 62-55 Class 1A boys’ regional semifinal win against Tri-Point.
