Teams of the Week: Ridgeview boys' basketball in spotlight

RIDGEVIEW BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Three years removed from a 1-26 season, the Mustangs (23-7) captured a Class 1A regional title, beating two Heart of Illinois Conference foes by double-digit margins. Three players reached double figures in the title game, including Trevor McIntosh with 15 points.

ST. THOMAS MORE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
The Sabers concluded their best season in school history (32-3) with a state runner-up finish in Class 2A. All 12 squad members played in the semifinals and the finals. Jade Brinkoetter, Elayna Kramer, Hadley Murray and Erica Wallen were the team’s seniors.

RANTOUL BOYS’ BASKETBALL
The Eagles closed the regular season with a loss to a Big 12 opponent (Danville) but opened the postseason with a win against a Big 12 opponent (Central) that had just defeated Danville last Friday. Junior Johnny Jones had a double-double against the Maroons.


MAHOMET-SEYMOUR BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
Jonathan Schaap was a double runner-up for the Bulldogs in Normal West’s invitational. He was second in the 1,600 and 3,200 races. Teammates Zaniel Zilewicz (high jump and high hurdles) and Andrew Shroyer (long jump and 400 meters) also had two top-seven placements.
