4 honored at Freedom Fund event

CHAMPAIGN — Four people were honored Friday night at the 2013 Freedom Fund Banquet presented by the Champaign County NAACP.

The Rev. Claude E. Shelby, pastor of Salem Baptist Church, received the Inter-Faith Service Award.

Sam Banks, executive director of the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club, received the Youth Advancement Award.

Carletta Donaldson was the recipient of the Unity in the Community Award.

Barb Staples, a board member for the Champaign-Urbana Area Project, received the Volunteer Award.

In addition, the Economic Development Award went to the Champaign County Black Chamber of Commerce.

The speaker was Nicole Anderson-Cobb of the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

The event was held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Champaign.
