Vaughn sets Centennial mark

PLAINFIELD — Centennial senior Luke Vaughn set meet and school records in the shot put at Saturday’s action at Planfield East with the fifth-best effort recorded by an area athlete.
His winning toss at the indoor track and field invitational was 59 feet, 71/2 inches — longest in the state this year, his coach, Greg Walters, said. The previous mark, held by ex-Charger Matt Strack, was 54-11.
Vaughn has broken his school record in three consecutive Saturday meets.

Houska shines indoors. Monticello’s Hannah Houska won the 800 at the Charleston Invitational. Mahomet-Seymour tied for fourth place in the girls’ indoor meet.
