Athletes of the Week: Catchings, Maxwell

Recently: Started out last week strong with 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a 60-48 home win against Normal West and has averaged 27.3 points in three games since. He then added a game-high 31 points during a 73-66 loss at Danville on Tuesday night.

In his own words: “The key was moving the ball and getting everybody involved with the offense. I just try to get as many offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds as I can.”

I’m driving ... a silver Mitsubishi.

I need tickets to ... any Illini game.

Toughest defender I’ve ever gone against ... My teammate, Moaso Bumba. You cannot get past him at all.

My favorite athlete is ... Kobe Bryant. He’s an all-around player.

Before a game, I’m listening to ... everything, but mainly Chief Keef and Kanye West.

Before a game, I’m eating ... Subway sandwiches.

After a game, I’m eating ... spaghetti.

My first dunk ... was sophomore year of a junior varsity game against Mahomet-Seymour. I think I had two dunks in that game.

In five years ... Probably be a physical therapist or going to the NBA

I sent my last text to ... my mom.

Urbana High is ... awesome.

Recently: Helped spark a 3-1 week for the Rockets by averaging 14 points in three wins against Paris, St. Teresa and St. Joseph-Ogden.

In her own words: “We just played together as a team. We’re starting to get it figured out. We just have to work together. I’ve got to thank my teammates first. They give me the ball and help me out in that area. It’s just a lot of self-confidence and confidence I have in my game, too.”

I sent my last text to ... Josh Larson, Paige Sappenfield and Hannah Stone.

I’m driving ... a 2010 white Ford Fusion.

I need tickets to ... another Justin Bieber concert. I’ve already been to one. Or to Lecrae. He’s a Christian rapper.

Favorite professional team ... Whatever team Dwight Howard is on, so now it’s the Houston Rockets. We’re good family friends with him. People don’t believe me at first, but we are.

Toughest defender I’ve ever gone against ... My sister, Joan Maxwell, in practice the last two years.

Before a game, I’m eating ... either a No. 1 at Jimmy John’s without tomato or cheese or something at Monical’s.

After a game, I’m eating ... For away games our parents provide our food with sandwiches and chips. Sometimes I’ll have a cookie when I get home.

In five years ... Hope to be finishing up my collegiate basketball career living down South about to get married. Somewhere near my high school friends.

Next year ... I’ll still be here playing basketball and volleyball, along with being involved in my youth group and getting ready for college.

Unity is ... unity. I feel like all the athletes and students come together. It’s just a fun school with great academics.
