Wednesday's prep highlights: Arcola girls reach Sweet 16

In girls’ basketball

Class 1A Sectional

At Toledo

Arcola 47, Louisville North Clay 35. Led by Taylor Edwards’ double-double (26 points, 16 rebounds), the Purple Riders advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1984 with a semifinal victory. Arcola will face Moweaqua Central A&M tonight for the sectional title.

Class 3A Regionals

At Fairbury

Normal U-High 55, Mahomet-Seymour 34. Karlee Deppe and Maddie See combined for 20 points for the fourth-seeded Bulldogs in a semifinal loss to the top seed.

Prairie Central 51, Pontiac 46. Kiana Coomber’s game-high 23 points lifted the second-seeded Hawks to a semifinal victory.

Class 4A Regional

At Normal

Normal Community 50, Danville 49. The fourth-seeded Vikings rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to force overtime before falling short in the quarterfinals against the fifth seed. Michaela Jones had 20 points and five assists for Danville, and teammate Alexis Hoskins added 17 points.

In boys’ basketball
Centennial 70, Decatur MacArthur 63. Michael Finke scored 20 points, Dedric Byrd had 18 and Quin Nottingham 16 as the Chargers (20-4) clinched at least a share of the Big 12 Conference title with a win at MacArthur.

“The fourth quarter was outstanding,” Chargers coach Tim Lavin said. “They took the lead, 49-45, late in the third, but we executed down the stretch.”

Centennial opened the fourth period on a 21-7 run.

Watseka 54, Momence 39. The Warriors rolled to a road win behind Austin Hasselbring’s 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Bloomington Central Catholic 72, Prairie Central 41. Ed Shafer and Hayden Wenger combined for 22 points for the Hawks in a road loss.

Decatur St. Teresa 49, Unity 28. Zach Thorson scored eight points for the Rockets in a home defeat.

Arthur-Lovington 68, Shiloh 67. Tyler Schuring sank six three-pointers and scored 28 points to boost the Knights to a home overtime victory. Kaleb Hood’s 16 points led four Shiloh double-figure scorers.

GCMS 46, LeRoy 43. Wiley Hasty scored eight of his 18 points in the fourth quarter to rally the Falcons to a home victory. Teddy Harms of LeRoy also scored 18.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 47, Armstrong-Potomac 41. Dylan Cosat scored all of his team-high 10 points in the second period, leading the Buffaloes to a road win. Austin Rademacher paced A-P with 14 points.

Milford 67, Schlarman 45. Alex Portwood scored eight of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the Bearcats pull away to a home victory. Gavin Stines led the Hilltoppers with 10 points.

Macon Meridian 46, Argenta-Oreana 36. Keegan McHood scored 14 points for the host Bombers.
