Teams of the Week: Danville boys in spotlight
DANVILLE BOYS’ BASKETBALL
The Vikings (11-16) hit their peak at season’s end, winning four of their last five games to advance into Friday’s Class 4A regional title game at Normal Community. Senior Denzel Smith has 60 points and 18 rebounds and is 16 for 16 from the free throw line in two regional games.
ST. THOMAS MORE BOYS’ BASKETBALL
The Sabers (21-7) have had three different scoring leaders in their first three postseason games: Doug Wallen, Michael Plecki and Kyler Jones. It’s not a surprise for a squad that has had eight players reach double figures ahead of Friday’s sectional final against St. Anne at DACC.
ARTHUR OKAW CHRISTIAN GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
The Conquering Riders (17-14) lost in the Indiana Christian State Tournament semifinal game to top-ranked Granger but have won 15 of their last 19 games entering this week’s national event in Dayton, Tenn. Hanna Erwin had a team-high
17 points and six rebounds against Granger.
CENTENNIAL BOYS’ BASKETBALL
The Chargers (24-4) extended their winning streak to 15 games, locking up the Big 12 Conference championship last week and then handing Urbana a 20-point Class 3A regional semifinal loss. Senior Michael Finke has scored 91 points in his last three games.
