Prep highlights: Finke leads Maroons to win

In boys' basketball

Arcola 51, Tri-County 46. In Little Okaw Valley Conference action, Arcola (2-0) relied on 13 points from Hugo Garza and 12 points from Myles Roberts to post a home win against the Titans (3-4). Mason Richardson scored a game-high 15 points for Tri-County.

Champaign Central 63, Normal Commuinty 56. Grand Canyon signee Tim Finke's game-high 25 points led the Maroons (3-1) to a Big 12 win on the road against Normal Community. Jonte Coleman tacked on 12 points for the Maroons.

Clinton 63, Maroa-Forsyth 46. Seth Westfall's 15 points and Austin Baker's14 points led Clinton (5-1) to a nonconference win at home against Maroa-Forsyth.

El Paso-Gridley 67, Fisher 57. Despite 18 points from Jaden Jones-Watkins, the visiting Bunnies (4-1) suffered their first loss of the season to Heart Of Illinois Conference foe El Paso-Gridley (3-1).

Judah Christian 74, Armstrong-Potomac 67. Judah Christian (2-0) went on the road and pulled out a nonconference win thanks to 15 points from Noah Jackson and 14 points from Cade Chitty. Shawn Reardon led the Trojans (2-5) with 19 points.

La Salette 76, Chrisman 27. Behind 16 points from Caleb Moss and 13 points from Ian Burns, La Salette (5-2) took down Chrisman (1-5). The Cardinals were led by 10 points from Kyle Webster.

Paxton Buckley-Loda 67, Dwight 47. PBL (2-0) won a Sangamon Valley Conference game thanks to a team-high 18 points from Kyle Poll.

Urbana 69, Peoria 59. The Tigers (2-3) brought home a road win in their Big 12 Conference opener against Peoria. The Tigers were led by Corez Anderson's 16 points. Payton Sheen added 14 points and Keonu Duke contributed 12 points.

Hoopeston Area 62, Uni High 44. Behind 39 points from Graham Eighner (15 points), Lucas Hofer (12 points) and Logan Walder (12 points), the Cornjerkers (6-1) cruised to victory at Uni High (4-3). Noah Blue led the Illineks with 21 points.

Monticello 75, Bismarck-Hennig/Rossville-Alvin 60. The Blue Devils (4-2) fell at home in a nonconference duel to visiting Monticello (1-0). The Sages were led by 21 points from Luke Stokowski, with Calvin Fisher and Benton Singleton contributing 16 points and 14 points, respectivley. BHRA was led by a 29-point effort from Wyatt Edwards.

Villa Grove/Heritage 70, Schlarman 49. Villa Grove/Heritage (3-3) defended its home court, with Jared Wilson leading all scorers with 22 points. Chris Stanley scored 21 points for Schlarman (1-4).

Oakwood 61, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 40. Cameron Wise's 28-point game provided the biggest flash for the Comets (1-1). For the Knights (1-2), Kobe Wells led ALAH with 17 points.

Ridgeview 58, LeRoy 31. Jacob Donaldson (25 points) and Justin Myers (23 points) led the charge for the Mustangs (5-0), while Nick Perry had nine for the Panthers (4-2).

Watseka 30, Clifton Central 16. Watseka (1-1) went on the road and secured an SVC victory, with Blake Castonguay scoring 17 points.

In girls' basketball

Mike Walsh Tournament: Judah Christian 46, Shelbyville 27. Behind strong outings from Michelle Miller (17 points, five rebounds), Sa'Kinah Williams (15 points, seven rebounds) and Jenna Barnhart (12 points, four steals), the Tribe (3-5) easily won in a nonconference battle.Joey Wright
