Prep highlights: Wheeler leads Unity to win over Clinton

In boys' basketball

Arthur Okaw Christian 50, Normal Calvary 35. Benny Lee tallied a game-high 15 points and the Conquering Riders (3-0) earned a home East Central Illinois Conference win.

Chicago Longwood 61, Rantoul 53. LJ Lewis scored a team-high 14 points and Latavius Winston netted 12 points to go with 21 rebounds, but the host Eagles (3-3) couldn't overcome a 47-37 deficit to start the fourth quarter.

Danville 91, La Salette 58. The host Vikings drained 15 three-pointers in a home opener to keep their perfect record intact. Kendle Moore led Danville (6-0) with a game-high 24 points and teammate Sean Houpt sank five three-pointers en route to 22 points. Joel Adese (15 points, 12 rebounds) led La Salette (5-3).

Meridian 78, Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 30. Colton Romine finished with a team-high seven points for the Knights (1-3) in a road loss.

Milford 56, Watseka 52. Jake Thompson (17 points) and Tyler Schmidt (11 points) sparked Milford (5-0) at home. Blake Castonguay (18 points) and Ben Lyznicki (12 points) led the Warriors (1-2).

Okaw Valley 61, Tuscola 55. Tyler Meinhold finished with a game-high 19 points for Tuscola (0-1) and Luke Sluder contributed 13 points.

St. Joseph-Ogden 78, Westville 35. The host Spartans shot a blistering 68 percent from the field and made 10 of 14 from three-point range (71 percent) to rout the Tigers in SJ-O's season opener. Jordan Brooks led SJ-O (1-0) with a game-high 21 points to go along with four assists, while Jack Cook (18 points) and Chance Izard (13 points) also hit double figures. Tylan Stricklett scored a team-high nine points for the Tigers (1-1).

Unity 57, Clinton 35. The visiting Rockets (1-0) relied on a team-high 18 points from JT Wheeler to go along with 12 points from Jonathan Decker and 10 points from Cale Shonkwiler. Seth Westfall scored a game-high 20 points for Clinton (5-2).

In girls basketball

Mike Walsh Memorial Tournament

Judah Christian 48, Cerro Gordo/Bement 29. Emma Fleming had 15 points, Jenna Barnhart had 12 points and Meghan Olthoff made seven steals in Judah Christian's win. Ella Mann led the Broncos with eight points.

Judah Christian 57, Martinsville 33. The Tribe (5-5) won its third straight game and earned the tournament title behind solid ball movement, registering 19 assists on 25 field goals. Sa'kinah Williams paced Judah Christian with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

Amboy Shootout

Clinton 44, Indian Creek 33. Alyssa Saulsbery had a game-high 13 points to carry the Maroons (4-5).


Armstrong-Potomac 48, Uni High 26. Nicole Sprague dropped in a game-high 18 points to spark the visiting Trojans (4-4). Grace Qiu and Sarah Hashash each had six points for the Illineks (2-8).

Arthur Okaw Christian 45, Normal Calvary 18. The Conquering Riders prevailed at home with Savanna Spitz scoring a game-high 10 points for AOC (5-0).

Cissna Park 47, Ridgeview 44. Gabby Wessels tossed in a game-high 16 points for Cissna Park (4-3) while Sloan Boyce (11 points) and Olivia Powell (10 points) helped the Timberwolves rally from a 31-15 halftime deficit. Mya Tinsley led Ridgeview (6-1) with 13 points.

Fisher 54, Rantoul 44. The visiting Bunnies relied on the sharp shooting from Sidney Hood (24 points) to earn a nonconference win. Jada Mosley led the Eagles (3-4) with 13 points.

Normal Community 71, Champaign Central 54. The visiting Maroons suffered a Big 12 defeat as Normal Community distanced itself in the second half. Chanice Willis (16 points) and Adeola Badmos (15 points) led Central (1-4).

Peoria 57, Urbana 54. Alarea Jackson produced 21 points for Urbana (1-2) in a Big 12 overtime loss at home.

St. Joseph-Ogden 72, Westville 25. The host Spartans (6-2) received 17 points from Bree Trimble and 14 points from Taylor Barnes. Jasman Severado led the Tigers (6-3) with 12 points.

Watseka 56, South Newton (Ind.) 44. Summer Cramer drained six three-pointers en route to a game-high 25 points for Watseka (8-0).

In wrestling

At Chatham. Justin Cardani won a title at 113 pounds and Dontaice Roberson did the same at 170 to help Centennial finish fourth at the 13-team Glenwood Invitational. Rantoul placed eighth, with Nolan Roseman's second-place finish at 138 leading the Eagles.

At Fairbury. Both Monticello and host Prairie Central compiled 4-0 records at the Prairie Central North-South Multi Duals. Henry Dawson at 160 pounds, Seth Menacher at 195 and Hunter Weeks at 145 and 152 each had two pins for the Sages, while Seth Travis at 152 and Brandon Hoselton at 195 each compiled three pins apiece for the Hawks. Jacob Horsch starred for GCMS/Fisher in producing four pins — two at 145 and two at 152.

At LeRoy. LeRoy/Tri-Valley went 4-0, with Ty Baxter at 132 pounds and Dylan Woolridge at 220 each recording three pins to pace the Panthers. SJ-O defeated Danville and Urbana, with Sully Alwes compiling three pins at 285.

At Tolono. Unity defeated Peoria Manual 73-6 and Springfield Lanphier 36-33 in a home triangular. Quinn Shannon at 160 pounds and Jake Frost at 182 each won two matches, including one by pin, for the Rockets.

At Covington, Ind. Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin/Armstrong-Potomac compiled a 2-3 record at the Covington Invite, beating Turkey Run (Ind.) and Covington (Ind.). Cody Miller at 220 pounds led the Blue Devils with three pins, while Henry Taylor at 126 picked up two pins.

In boys' swimming

At Danville. Urbana defeated Danville 59-29 in a dual meet. Ethan Chow won the 100-yard butterfly in 57.78 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.56 to pace the Tigers. Lane Wagner took home first-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:54.11) and the 500 freestyle (5:05.72) for Danville.
