N-G Top 10: Boys' basketball

Now that the calendar has flipped to December and conference play is underway, preps coordinator Colin Likas checks in with rankings:

RK., TEAM REC. PREV. COMMENT

1. Danville 6-0 1 A stout La Salette group couldn't slow down Kendle Moore and the Vikings, who face difficult tests Friday (Champaign Central) and Sunday (defending Class 2A state champ Chicago Orr).

2. Monticello 1-0 2 The Sages were chomping at the bit to get started and showed as much by thumping Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin. Visiting Auburn awaits today before the Sages go on a week-long break.

3. Champaign Central 3-2 4 Losing to reigning Class 3A state titlist Morgan Park is nothing to be ashamed of, and the Maroons dumped Big 12 enemy Normal Community anyway. Danville will come to town Friday.

4. GCMS 4-1 6 The Falcons are back to full strength after the football team's state-title run and opened Heart of Illinois Conference play with a win at Flanagan-Cornell. HOIC play continues today at Tri-Valley.

5. PBL 2-0 — The Panthers are responsible for Hoopeston Area's lone loss and opened Sangamon Valley action by blasting Dwight. Kyle Poll and Co. will take their act to Bloomington Central Catholic today.

6. Fisher 4-1 3 El Paso-Gridley ended the Bunnies' unbeaten run in Fisher's Heart of Illinois Conference opener. A difficult opponent awaits Jaden Jones-Watkins and friends when LeRoy visits today.

7. Unity 1-0 10 JT Wheeler, Jonathan Decker and others opened the Rockets' season with a win over solid Clinton. Marshall comes to Tolono today before Unity visits a currently unbeaten Arcola outfit.

8. Mahomet-Seymour 4-2 7 The Bulldogs were welcomed home by a raucous throng of fans Friday against Charleston and then posted a 70-43 victory in Apollo Conference play. Mt. Zion offers another league foe today in Mahomet.

9. Hoopeston Area 6-1 8 The Cornjerkers bounced back from their defeat at the hands of PBL with a big triumph against Uni High. Graham Eighner and pals travel to Bismarck today for a Vermilion Valley affair.

10. Ridgeview 5-0 — After cleaning house in the Woodland Classic to start their season, the Mustangs dispatched LeRoy at home. Heart of Illinois play continues today when Ridgeview visits Flanagan-Cornell.
