N-G All-Area boys' basketball team coach of the Year | Judah Christian's Tom Cooper

Why he's Coach of the Year: The former Parkland College coach made his first season with Judah Christian a worthwhile one. Stressing an up-tempo style that focused on hitting as many three-pointers as possible, the Tribe maxed out at 122 points in a single game en route to a 25-5 campaign and the program's first-ever postseason hardware.

Season highlights: "I guess it would be winning the regional. It's the first time Judah Christian's ever done that."

A few of my favorites: My favorite food is hot brownies with vanilla ice cream, but it's put me on diet now, so I'm really hurting. ... My first car was a 1947 Ford (from my grandfather), which was his fishing car, and we drove it for probably four or five years. It was blue. I remember that very well. It smelled like worms and fish. ... My favorite non-sports hobby is reading, but I don't have hobbies. Basketball is all I ever do. ... My dream vacation destination is Cancun. We're leaving in about five weeks for three weeks in Cancun. (My wife and I) go there every year. ... My favorite sporting even that I've attended live is the very first championship that UCLA men's basketball won, in 1964. It was in Kansas City at their old municipal auditorium. My wife and I went to both sessions, and each ticket was $6. We sat in the rafters. ... My favorite professional/college sports team is the Philadelphia Eagles. I picked up on them real early in the season because Carson Wentz was in a Christian athletes magazine in the summer. They were fun to watch. ... My favorite band/musician is The Eagles and the late Glenn Frey, bless his heart.

Three items on my bucket list: I don't have anything. We've pretty much done everything we wanted to do. I don't live with regrets.

What I enjoy most about coaching: "I think athletics gives kids a chance to focus on something that, if they work at it, they'll get better and they'll see results. Anything you choose to do, if you have any gifts at all in that area, if you work at it, you can be really good."
