Monday highlights: Sabers clinch SVC share

Swimming & Diving

– JENNY HILL (50-yard freestyle, 100 butterfly) and GABI RAJIC (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke) were dual winners to lead Urbana past Danville 103-82.


– HALEY WITTS had 10 kills to lead Cerro Gordo past Bement 22-25, 25-20, 25-18 in the Little Okaw Valley Conference tournament. The Broncos also beat Villa Grove 25-10, 25-12 behind six kills from LEAH HENRICKS.

Elsewhere, Heritage defeated Arcola 25-19, 15-25, 25-18 behind seven kills and four blocks from CEDAR RICHARDSON. The Hawks also defeated Arthur 25-19, 25-19.

JENNI ROMACK had five kills in Bement's 25-13, 25-23 victory against Villa Grove.

– OLIVIA CARTER's eight kills, six blocks and five digs paced Rantoul past Decatur Eisenhower 25-14, 25-22.

– SAMANTHA SIDDENS had six kills and BAILEY BRYANT added five to go with three blocks in Bismarck-Henning's 25-16, 25-17 victory against Seeger (Ind.).

– SHELBY GEERS (six kills, five blocks) and JOSEY FRUHLING (five blocks) sparked St. Joseph-Ogden in a 25-14, 25-15 victory against Mattoon.

– KAITLYN ZELHART's 17 kills powered Blue Ridge (20-1) past St. Thomas More 23-25, 25-23, 25-16.

– SYDNI MEUNIER collected 24 digs and ERICA BAILLIE handed out 15 assists in GCMS' 22-25, 25-20, 25-17 victory against LeRoy.

– RACHEL KELLEY and AUBREY PETTENGER had five kills apiece to lead Fisher past Paxton-Buckley-Loda 25-15, 13-25, 25-18.


– St. Thomas More clinched at least a share of the Sangamon Valley Conference title with a 1-0 victory against Clifton Central. The 50th victory of the program's history was secured when CHARLIE DeBRYUN scored off a 45-yard lob from JOHN TABB in the second half. The Sabers (12-6-2) can clinch the outright crown with a victory against St. Joseph-Ogden today.

– J.J. MALONE scored five goals to lead Blue Ridge (17-1-2) to a 7-0 victory against Georgetown-Ridge Farm.

– SYNAN NICHOLSON scored on the fourth of five Oakwood shots in the penalty kick shootout to lift the Comets past Schlarman 2-1. KEGAN DECKER's second-half goal sent the game into overtime.

– DREW SCHUMACHER scored four goals as Monticello defeated Decatur St. Teresa 5-0 to improve to 12-4-1.

– COLBY BARHAM's three goals powered Iroquois West to an 8-0 victory against St. Anne.


– MADELIENE BAILLON's win at No. 1 singles led St. Thomas More's 7-2 victory against GCMS.

– Danville improved to 7-0 with a 5-0 victory against Watseka. EMMA PECK (No. 1) and RACHEL LEWIS (No. 2) earned the singles wins.

– Centennial swept all matches in straight sets in a 9-0 victory against Decatur MacArthur. ALLISON HANSEN and WENDY PAN each dropped one game in winning singles matches.

Boys' golf

– WILL DUGGINS' 47 was good for third place as Blue Ridge beat Heyworth.
