In boys' soccer

Centennial 9, Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning 1. LONNIE BARNES scored a goal and assisted on two others in Centennial's season-opener. BRENT LOTH and DENNIS FREEMAN each had two goals for the Chargers. SETH TALBOTT scored for the Cornjerkers.

Blue Ridge 6, Heyworth 0. JONATHAN MALONE scored four goals for the Knights, who got a goal and two assists from CONNER BUILTA.

Normal U-High 2, Danville 1. MAC LEVERENZ headed a GRACSON TORRES corner kick for the Vikings' lone goal in their season opener. Keeper STEPHEN MIELKE collected 17 saves.

In boys' golf

At Savoy. DREW HEFFLEY fired a 37 and DALY O'BRIEN shot 39, leading Monticello to a 163-182 victory against the Centennial junior varsity at the University of Illinois Blue Course. ISAAC OVERMAN and MIKE BRAVERMAN each had 45s for the Chargers.

In girls' golf

At Mahomet. Medalist CHARLOTTE GOSS fired a 41 and teammates RANDAL BERNTHAL and BROOKLYN HILDRETH added 43s as Mahomet-Seymour (172) defeated Mattoon and Sullivan at Lake of the Woods.

In volleyball

At St. Joseph. JOSEY FRUHLING had six kills and three blocks to power St. Joseph-Ogden past Hoopeston Area 25-9, 25-10. KENZIE JAMES served five aces.

At Westville. Watseka defeated Westville 25-7, 25-13 behind eight kills from JESSICA ALLHANDS.

At Monticello. KATHERINE EICKMEIER had five blocks and four kills in Monticello's 25-23, 25-27, 25-18 loss to Heyworth. KAITLYN HUNT collected 20 digs.

At Bement. ANNA HENDRIX had five kills and 12 digs as Bement edged DeLand-Weldon 28-26, 27-25. SABRINA HINTON chipped in four kills and four blocks.

At Paxton. CATLYN EKSTROM served four aces to lead Paxton-Buckley-Loda to a 25-10, 25-15 victory against Oakwood.
