Wednesday's prep highlights: Black shows way

In boys' golf

At Rantoul. Centennial won the Champaign County Championship at Brookhill as PETER BLACK secured medalist honors with a 69. The Chargers (304) topped runner-up St. Thomas More by 5 strokes. Mahomet-Seymour was third at 312.

STM's JOSH KULAS, Rantoul/PBL's BROCK PEAVLER and Mahomet-Seymour's GARRETT COX tied for second at 73.

At Fairmount. LANE WESTON of Salt Fork captured medalist honors with a 41 at Blue Needles as the Storm (182) topped Villa Grove. JACOB KATAVICH added a 43 for Salt Fork.

At Fillmore. CHRISTOPHER WITTEMAN of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley and LeRoy's JACOB WOHLWEND shared medalist honors with a 44 at Indian Springs Golf Course.

Ridgeview (190) edged LeRoy (192) for team honors.

In girls' golf

At Toluca. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley swept the top four spots — headed by EMILY SPANGLER's 40 — to defeat Fieldcrest, Tri-Valley and Putnam County.

MIKAYLA WOODWARD added a 41 for the Falcons.

At Normal. KATELYNN MARTINEZ shot 45 to lead Centennial (192) past Mount Zion (214) and Normal West (230) at Ironwood Golf Course. MADISON WHITE added a 47 for the Chargers.

In girls' tennis

At Urbana. MADDIE BAILLON, JIWON YOON, MARA FALLON and ALYSSA VODACEK posted straight-sets victories in singles to lead St. Thomas More past Paris 6-3.

At Rantoul. Centennial swept to a 9-0 victory against Rantoul without dropping a set. ALLISON HANSEN and SONG LEE teamed for an 8-0 pro-set victory at No. 1 doubles.

In boys' soccer

St. Thomas More 4, Watseka 1. DAN SHIN had a hat trick and WILEY JONES added two assists as the Sabers rolled on the road. St. Thomas More played a man short for nearly the entire match after being handed a red card for a handball in the box in the first minute. KYLE KOSTELL also scored for the Sabers.

In volleyball

At Springfield. MACEY SMART collected 12 kills and JENNY SRIKANT dished out 12 assists, but Urbana fell to Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 25-21, 25-20. Srikant added a pair of aces.

At Danville. Chrisman earned a pair of victories in the Schlarman Classic, defeating Salt Fork 25-16, 25-10 and Paris 24-26, 25-17, 25-22. PAIGE THEVENIN led the Cardinals, recording 19 kills and three blocks. BRIDGET MATTINGLY handed out 17 assists. BRETT BISHOP had eight kills, and HAILEY MARVIN chipped in four aces. KALAN WYATT led the defense with 13 digs.

In the other match, Paris stopped Salt Fork 25-17, 25-19.

At Champaign. Champaign Central defeated Jacksonville 19-25, 25-17, 25-22 behind a balanced attack led by JAELYN WESTFIELD (nine kills), ALINA ALTMYER (eight) and KAILYN DEMITH (eight). Demith had three aces. AUDREY AEILTS chipped in 29 assists.

Your posting for Champaign Central defeating Jacksonville is wrong. Jacksonville won the series - 25-19, 17-25, 25-22. Please fix.
