Thursday's prep highlights: Davis lifts Arthur
At Villa Grove. Hannah Davis' eight kills and Sherelle Coller's five service aces and 16 assists boosted Arthur to a 25-8, 25-6 victory against Villa Grove. Amanda McCollom and Hannah Beeson combined for 23 digs for the Blue Devils.
At Champaign. Kelly Wachtel had nine kills for Centennial in its 25-12, 25-18 victory against Peoria Richwoods.
At Danville. Watseka won twice to capture the Schlarman Academy Invitational title with a 4-0 record. In a 25-12, 25-10 victory against Salt Fork, Kat Grimes had 11 assists and Jessica Allhands had seven service aces for the Warriors. Allhands racked up 12 kills and five aces in a 25-12, 25-21 win against the Hilltoppers. Grimes contributed eight digs and 19 assists.
Schlarman, which finished second with a 2-2 record, defeated Salt Fork 25-18, 25-22 behind Laura Gross' eight kills and four blocks.
At Maroa. Kaitlyn Zelhart had five kills, eight digs and three service aces to lead Blue Ridge to a 25-21, 25-15 victory against Maroa-Forsyth. Emily Zelhart contributed eight assists to the win.
At Rantoul. Chaquera Cross had 23 digs to lead Rantoul to a 25-22, 25-20 victory against Urbana. Cate Hummel had 15 digs for the Tigers.
At Atwood. Despite five kills and seven digs by Elaine Davis, Atwood-Hammond fell to Decatur Christian 27-25, 25-20. Kaci Spry added three blocks for the Rajenes.
At Bement. Leah Henricks and Camille McRae combined for 19 kills to lead Cerro Gordo to a 25-19, 28-26 victory against Bement. Sabrina Hinton had eight blocks, seven digs and six kills for the Bulldogs, while Anna Hendrix and Alyssa Hendrix combined for 15 digs.
At Donovan. Jordyn Nettleton had six kills and six digs for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in a 25-23, 25-20 loss to Donovan. Jaymi Nettleton led the Falcons with seven kills.
At Argenta. Hannah Millington's 11 kills, four blocks and four service aces propelled Argenta-Oreana to a 25-13, 25-22 victory against DeLand-Weldon. Alexa Jones and Alex Stupek each had five blocks and five kills for the Bombers.
At Monticello. St. Joseph-Ogden defeated Monticello 25-19, 25-20 behind Emily Griswell's 24 assists and Josey Fruhling's eight kills and three blocks. Grace Blickhan had eight kills and Kaitlyn Hunt 11 digs for the Sages.
At Oakland. Lizzy Barnard's eight kills and Amber Meyer's 17 assists lifted Tri-County to a 25-16, 25-20 victory against Hutsonville.
At Gilman. Karrie Heideman had five assists in a 25-14, 25-18 loss to Ridgeview.
At Clinton. Morgan Hickman's 15 digs, 22 assists and seven kills boosted Clinton to a 25-20, 25-27, 25-17 victory against Heyworth. Shanae Ritter racked up 21 digs for the Maroons.
At Paxton. Kortnie Schroeder had six digs and three kills for Paxton-Buckley-Loda in a 25-15, 29-27 loss to Tri-Valley.
At Fairbury. Prairie Central defeated Herscher 25-23, 26-24 behind Ally Krenz's 12 digs and five kills.
At Normal. Olivia Janssen's five kills and Andrea DeBella's six digs rallied Buckley Christ Lutheran to a 15-25, 25-20, 25-14 victory against Normal Calvary.
In boys' soccer
At Tolono. Travys Nichols and J.J. Malone scored for Blue Ridge in a 2-1 victory against Unity. Logan Cunningham had the Rockets' goal.
At Urbana. Patrick Wong scored twice and Tarik Koric assisted on three goals to lead Urbana University High to a 4-1 victory against Mahomet-Seymour. Andrew Shroyer scored for the Bulldogs.
At Gilman. Dan Shin's goal with 10 minutes left in the first half stood up for injury-depleted St. Thomas More in a 1-0 victory against Iroquois West. Kyle Kostell assisted on the score.
At Watseka. St. Joseph-Ogden outlasted Watseka 1-0 by winning the second round of penalty kicks 2-1. Following a scoreless regulation, the first round of penalty kicks ended in a 3-3 draw. In Round 2, Darek Lambert and Andrew Quednau scored for the Spartans and goalkeeper Kyle Roedl had four saves.
In girls' tennis
At Urbana. Madie Baillon did not drop a set at No. 1 singles and combined with Alyssa Vodacek to win 8-2 at No. 1 doubles in St. Thomas More's 5-4 loss to Mount Zion at Atkins Tennis Center. Vodacek also prevailed at No. 4 singles.
In girls' golf
At Savoy. Janice Choo of Champaign Central earned medalist honors with a 34 at the University of Illinois Blue Course in a two-school match shortened to six holes due to high temperatures. Mackinize Coleman finished second with a 38 for the Maroons, who had a 152 team score. Shiloh, which entered two golfers, was led by Jordan Landeck (42).
At Bloomington. LeRoy's Molly Marcia tied for medalist honors with a 41, but the Panthers lost a dual meet against Bloomington 191-202 at Highland Park Golf Course.
At Saint Anne. Medalist Kate Mueller shot a 42 to win by 5 strokes and lead Watseka to a 204-228 victory against Kankakee at Shamrock Golf Course.
At Gibson City. Emily Spangler shot a 39 to win medalist honors for GCMS, which had four of the top five scorers in rolling to a 24-stroke victory in a three-team meet at Railside. Jackie Duffy of second-place Prairie Central tied for third with a 47.
At Charleston. Sierra Myerscough's 40 led St. Thomas More to a 22-stroke victory in a three-team meet at Charleston Country Club. Kelsey Gallivan and McKenzie Stipes each shot 44 for the Sabers against runner-up Charleston and Mattoon.
In boys' golf
At Danville. Led by Dalton Dieu's 44, four Schlarman golfers shot 47 or lower in a 182-187 victory against Westville at Harrison Park. Brett Cox and Bryce Cox of Westville shared medalist honors with 43s.
At Farmer City. Freshman Justin Jamison shot a 43, and classmate Mason Potts and sophomore Dylan Weidner each carded 44s to lead Blue Ridge to victory in a three-team meet. Jake Warmoth of third-place Fisher was the individual runner-up with a 40.
At Mahomet. Led by co-medalist Garrett Cox's par 36, four Mahomet-Seymour golfers shot under 40 as the Bulldogs won a three-team meet at Lake of the Woods. M-S totaled 150 shots to defeat runner-up Bloomington Central Catholic by 6 strokes. Lyle Burns of the Bulldogs placed third with a 37.
At Savoy. Kaleb Vaughn fired a 40 to finish second and lead Centennial to a 177-198 victory against Champaign Central at the University of Illinois Blue Course.
Eldon Potts (39) earned medalist honors for Decatur MacArthur, which did not field a full team.
Third-place Myles Roosevelt led the Maroons with a 42.
At Gibson City. Led by medalist Kyler Hoffman, Prairie Central had five of the top six individual scorers and rolled to a 23-stroke victory in a three-team meet at Railside. Christopher Witteman of third-place GCMS was the individual runner-up with a 38.
