Monday's highlights: Khachaturian opens with win

In golf

■ At Mahomet.
Christian Khachaturian shot a 72 to win medalist honors by 3 strokes and lead Centennial to the title of the 15-team Tiger Kick Off Classic at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.

The Chargers totaled 317 shots to edge runner-up Bradley-Bourbonnais by 3 strokes. Mahomet-Seymour was third at 327.

Andy Bott of Bismarck-Henning placed second with a 75 and was joined among the leaders by teammate David Warren (tied for third at 77).

P.J. Garinger (78) of fourth-place Champaign Central finished fifth, and Isaac Overman (79) of Centennial was sixth. Logan Hannon led M-S with an 80.

■ At Farmer City. Evelyn Brand of Monticello won medalist honors by 4 strokes, but Mahomet-Seymour claimed the team title by the same margin in the six-team Blue Ridge Invitational at Woodlawn Country Club. M-S edged Monticello 376-380.

The Bulldogs had three of the tournament’s top six scorers, led by runner-up Emily Trolia (78). She was joined among the leaders by teammates Maddie Birchbichler (89) and Keegan Gagne (97).

Brand (74) and Kendyl McFarland (83) gave the Sages two of the tournament’s top three scorers.

■ At Gibson City. Axel Dorn shot a 39 to edge teammate Devyn Roesch by 2 strokes for medalist honors and lead GCMS to a season-opening 168-219 victory against Fisher at Railside Golf Club.

The Falcons finished 16 shots better than their best score last season. Jakob Hobbs carded a 50 to lead the Bunnies.

■ At Effingham. Medalist Caroline Dodds (47) and runner-up Taylor During (49) led St. Thomas More to a 203-218 victory against Teutopolis at Cardinal Golf Course.

■ At Hoopeston. Tri-medalist Burl Gi shot a 45 to lead Watseka to victory in a three-team match at Hubbard Trail Country Club. The Warriors totaled 192 shots, 5 fewer than runner-up Donovan. Ryan McGill (46) of third-place Hoopeston Area finished 1 shot back.

■ At Hoopeston. Medalist Kate Mueller shot a 49 for Watseka against Hoopeston Area at Hubbard Trail Country Club. Runner-up Drew Grimes of the Warriors finished 4 shots behind Mueller. The Cornjerkers, who did not field a full team, were led by Holly Morgeson (62).
