Tuesday's prep highlights: Urbana soccer ties Danville

In boys’ soccer

Mattoon 2, Monticello 1. Luke Hanselman scored on a pass from Joey Tombs, but the Sages lost on the road. Ryan Schaub had nine saves for Monticello.

Urbana Uni High 3, Fisher/GCMS 2. Andrew Young and Hunter Lowry scored for the host Bunnies. Will Brewer had 14 saves in the loss. Isaak Haberman, Randall Hornbacker and Desmond Powers scored for the Illineks.

Judah Christian 3, Blue Ridge 3. Judah’s Lewis Nisbet had a hat trick off assists from Max Berry (two) and Chris Valdovinos in a road tie. Dylan Grammer had a pair of goals, and Aaron Kopp also connected for the Knights. The Tribe led 2-1 at halftime.

Danville 1, Urbana 1. Danville’s Matt Clark scored early in the second half, but Urbana’s Gesi Muharremi tied the score with seven seconds left in the match as the Big 12 rivals fought to a draw.

Oakwood 7, Schlarman 0. Cole Burris and Evan Wangler each scored a pair of goals to lead the Comets. Oakwood’s defense didn’t allow a shot in the road win. Hilltoppers keeper Chris Kuchefski made 12 saves.

Hoopeston 8, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 1. Nathan Michael had a hat trick as the host Cornjerkers bolted to an 8-0 halftime lead. Chase Bouse had two goals, and Brennan Crose, Bailey Crose and Ryan Glotzbach also scored for Hoopeston (4-1, 1-0 VVC). Reed Smith scored for G-RF.

St. Thomas More 8, Iroquois West 1. Kyler Jones had a hat trick, and Michael Behrensmeyer added two goals in a Sabers rout.

In boys’ golf

At Monticello. David Vanderkloot shot a 40 to lead a sweep of the top spots for the Sages at Monticello Country Club. Zach Fisher (42), Kyle Kaufmann (42) and Collin Gortner (43) also figured in the scoring for Monticello, which beat LeRoy 167-195. Jay B. Ready led the Panthers with a 46.

At Tuscola. Clayton Miller took home medalist honors for runner-up Arcola-Arthur in a three-team meet at Ironhorse Golf Club. Eddie Durham (41), Mark Snider (43), Dylan Taylor (45) and Jackson McCrory (46) paced Tuscola to an 8-stroke victory in the meet, which also included Charleston.

At Farmer City. Mason Potts took home medalist honors by 3 strokes, beating teammates Zach Reynolds (42) and Will Duggins (43) as Blue Ridge (168) cruised to a victory against Fisher (205) and Clinton (224) at Woodlawn Country Club.

In girls’ golf

At LeRoy. LeRoy’s Abbie Lewis brought home medalist honors by 4 strokes at LeRoy Country Club, leading the Panthers to a 23-stroke win against Bloomington Central Catholic’s JV squad. LeRoy’s Jess Wohlwend (52) claimed second, and teammate Courtney Monier (53) tied for third.

At Danville. Oakwood’s Brandon Rowe shot a 43 to take home medalist honors by 1 stroke, but Salt Fork’s depth helped secure a 10-stroke dual victory at Harrison Park Golf Course. Cole Sanford had a 44, and Lane Weston and Max Prosser each shot 46 to lead the Storm.

In girls’ swimming

At Urbana. Gabi Rajic won the 100-yard backstroke and swam legs on the winning 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams for Urbana, which lost 109-71 to Normal Community. Rajic was joined by Ali Slaughter, Cecilia Abbamonte and Penny Yue Xu on the winning relays. Audrey Spears also won the 200 free for the Tigers.

In girls’ tennis

At Urbana. St. Thomas More won all six singles matches — Abby Demlow, Maddie King, Meredith Thomas, Ellen Sobeski, Lauren To and Lizzy Franey — to lead the Sabers to a 6-3 win against Urbana at Blair Park.

The Tigers won all three doubles matches.

In volleyball

St. Thomas More 2, St. Joseph-Ogden 1. Lexi Wallen had 14 kills and 11 digs as the Sabers knocked off their Sangamon Valley Conference rival 18-25, 25-21, 25-16. Tori McCoy (nine kills) and Louisette Lukusa (seven) also chipped in to the STM attack. Karlie Baker paced the Spartans’ offense with 29 assists. Kylie Michael added 11 kills and three blocks, and Shelby Simmons had 18 digs and three aces.

Mahomet-Seymour 2, Olympia 1. Led by a long service run by Sophie Christianson, the host Bulldogs rallied from a 24-16 deficit in the final set to secure a 19-25, 25-13, 27-25 Corn Belt Conference victory. Tori Veldman led M-S with 10 kills.

Watseka 2, Hoopeston Area 0. Taylor Bauer led the Warriors’ offense with 17 kills in a 25-14, 25-14 victory. Maddie Pfingsten dished out 24 assists, Colleen Suchy had three aces and Emily Allhands had two blocks as Watseka stayed unbeaten at 13-0.

Urbana Uni High 2, Normal Calvary Christian 0. Carter Stancil had 11 kills and three blocks to lead the Illineks’ 25-18, 27-25 sweep.

Monticello 2, Bement 1. Allie Hislope’s nine blocks and Rowan Crozier’s nine kills helped the Sages to a 25-18, 25-27, 25-19 victory against the Bulldogs. Elaina Wittmer had seven kills and Taylor Wegrich added six kills and 14 digs for visiting Bement.

Tuscola 2, Arcola 1. Karli Allen had six kills and Brooke Little added five as the Warriors rallied from a one-set deficit for a 19-25, 25-22, 25-11 victory. Lani Little had six kills for Tuscola (4-1).

Blue Ridge 2, Ridgeview 0. Emily Zelhart had 11 assists — seven to Athlete of the Week Gabby Pearl in the Knights’ 25-23, 25-15 victory.

Armstrong-Potomac 2, Westville 0. Morgan Zindars’ double-double (15 assists, 11 digs) helped the Trojans to a 25-23, 25-17 victory. Rachel Miles had seven kills to lead A-P.

Tri-County 2, Oblong 0. Abby Smith had five kills, Ana Brown had three aces and Alex Hudson added 14 assists as the Titans won 25-23, 25-12.

Cerro Gordo 2, Decatur Lutheran 0. Makenzie Wagoner had 10 kills to pace the Broncos’ 25-19, 25-13 victory. Leah Henricks had four aces for Cerro Gordo (6-1).

Teutopolis 2, Sullivan 0. Emily Neuhauser (12) and Alyssa Marshall (11) each hit double digits in digs during the Redskins’ 25-17, 25-22 loss.

Tremont 2, GCMS 1. Jillian Donoho and Emily Elder had five kills apiece, and Allyson Barnes chipped in nine digs, but the host Falcons lost 25-14, 18-25, 25-19.

Lexington 2, LeRoy 0. Kayle Beadles had six kills and 18 digs, and Briana Retter handed out 19 assists, but the Panthers lost 25-23, 25-22.

Cissna Park 2, Iroquois West 0. Addison Stoller had three kills and three aces, and Hillary Hines had six kills and three blocks in the Timberwolves’ 25-6, 25-16 win.

DeLand-Weldon 2, Arthur Okaw Christian 0. The visiting Conquering Riders lost 25-10, 25-18.

Bismarck-Henning 2, Milford 0. Maddie Winkler had 14 assists, and Lindsey Andrews and Logan Knight each had seven kills for the Blue Devils in their 25-22, 25-20 win.
