B-H's Bott is back on top again
TUSCOLA — It’s been less than a week since Andy Bott shot a 10-under-par 61 to win the Vermilion Valley Conference golf title. If he keeps up this pace, the Bismarck-Henning senior will need to make some more space in his trophy case.
On Tuesday, the reigning News-Gazette Golfer of the Year won the Class 1A Tuscola Regional with a 2-over 74 at Ironhorse.
His showing helped the Blue Devils to a second-place finish, 8 strokes behind champion St. Thomas More, and a spot in Monday’s sectional meet.
The Sabers also advanced thanks to a finish that saw three golfers shoot under 80 — Christopher Tate and Tyler Vodacek tied for second at 78, and Jesse Dankle was a shot back at 79.
Third-place Tuscola, which was led by 10th-place finishes from Gunnar Campbell and Jarrett Wallace, both of whom shot 85, also moved on.
Advancing as individuals were Oakwood’s Brandon Rowe (83), Chrisman’s Austin Merritt (84), St. Joseph-Ogden’s Garrett Grimsley (86), Shiloh’s Hayden Kile (85), Judah Christian’s Brendan Black (87) and Tyler Erhard (88), Hoopeston Area’s Tristyn Trosper (89) and Westville’s Adam High (94).
At Streator. Devyn Roesch brought home medalist honors with an 81 and led GCMS to a tie for the top spot.
Iroquois West, led by Clark Fink’s 87, finished in third place, 2 strokes behind Dwight and GCMS.
Watseka’s Burl Gillespie (91) and Nathan Schroeder (96), and Cissna Park’s Shane Irby (94) and Milford’s Alex Portwood (102) also moved on.
At El Paso. Mason Potts had an 87 and Cory Jayne an 88 to lead Blue Ridge to a third-place finish — by 1 stroke — at El Paso Golf Course.
LeRoy’s Justin Morgan shot a 92 to advance as an individual.
At Toledo. Sam Mulligan’s 91 was good for the Sullivan sophomore to make next week’s sectional meet.
