GIBSON CITY — It took a tiebreaker between Monticello and Mahomet-Seymour to determine the team champion, but both were winners when it came to advancing to the girls’ state golf tournament.

With each team finishing with 389 shot totals, the Sages were declared champions of the Class 1A GCMS Sectional at Railside Golf Club based on their fifth score.

Senior Evelyn Brand led Monticello with a 79, while junior Emily Trolia paced the Bulldogs with an 81.

Salt Fork senior Courtney LaFoe, competing as an individual, also advanced to state, which begins Friday at Red Tail Run in Decatur. LaFoe shot a 78 to finish within 2 strokes of medalist Ashley Miller of Mount Zion.

Class 1A boys
Bott boosts B-H. Senior Andy Bott fired a 71 to earn medalist honors and lead Bismarck-Henning to a berth in the state tournament.

The host Blue Devils finished second in the sectional at Harrison Park Golf Course in Danville. They’ll be joined at Prairie Vista Golf Course in Bloomington this weekend by St. Thomas More, which advanced by placing third at the B-H Sectional. Junior Chris Tate was low scorer for the Sabers with an 80.

Four area golfers qualified for state as individuals: Brandon Rowe of Oakwood, Mason Potts and Cory Jayne of Blue Ridge, and Hayden Kile of Shiloh.

Class 2A boys
Thompson repeats. Riley Thompson of Champaign Central qualified for state for the second consecutive year after shooting a 77 at the Metamora Sectional. The Maroons senior advanced to this weekend’s finals at Weibring Golf Club in Normal as an individual.

Centennial and Mahomet-Seymour failed to move on from the sectional team competition.
