Sherrick, Chargers rounding into form

CHAMPAIGN — Entering the 2015 girls' golf season, Centennial coach Darren Tee carried a roster of four. Three years later, the Chargers boast 11 athletes — including seven seniors.

Leading the way is Claire Sherrick, who was part of Centennial's team as a freshman. The four-year contributor was ranked sixth among local girls in nine-hole average (44.2) entering the week.

Thursday's prep highlights: Knights win 22nd match

In volleyball

Argenta-Oreana 2, Decatur LSA 0. A double-double from Camilyn Newbanks (14 assists and 11 digs) helped A-O sweep LSA 25-14, 25-10 in Little Okaw Valley Conference play. Morgan Klover led the Bombers (11-8, 2-1) with six kills.

Wednesday's prep highlights: Falcons led by Birky and Roesch at Lake of Woods

In volleyball

Beecher 2, Watseka 0. Kennedy Bauer produced 12 kills and Taylor Schippert posted 23 digs in a 25-10, 25-21 road loss for the Warriors (9-8).

Boys' and girls' golf pairings released for 2018 regionals

Local prep boys' and girls' golf teams on Monday learned where their respective postseason runs would begin, as the IHSA released regional pairings and sectional sites.

Monday's prep highlights: VanWinkle's 33 top medalist tally

In volleyball

Blue Ridge 2, Villa Grove 0. The Knights (20-3) outlasted the Blue Devils (5-8) in a 25-12, 25-13 nonconference outcome as Hannah Brackenhoff collected nine digs, Polly Reynolds notched seven kills and two blocks, and Avery Fisher posted 20 assists.
