Maroons brother-sister duo opens new season today

CHAMPAIGN — Justin and Mackenzie McCoy faced a simple prompt Tuesday at the U of I Golf Course in Savoy.

Pick a club — a favorite club — from your respective bags for a siblings photograph.

Prep golf storylines to watch: Plethora of area talent has graduated

Preps coordinator Colin Likas offers up four storylines to watch in 2018:

GRADS APLENTY

Bacys has Danville's seal of approval

DANVILLE — For the last 11 years, B.J. Luke sat at the top tier of Danville High School sports.

That changed last week when Luke retired from his role as athletic director. It didn't take him long to espouse the new man in charge.

"He'll do a nice job for us," Luke said. "And he dresses better than I do."

Former Uni High standout, current Illini wins first Twin City title

CHAMPAIGN — Varun Chopra never got too high or too low Sunday at the Twin City golf tournament.

Perhaps the most emotion he showed during an unseasonably wet and chilly final two rounds at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club was during his second time through the par-3 16th. His lengthy birdie putt from the fringe traveled mere inches to the left of the cup.

Likas | Close-knit siblings thriving on separate stages

CHAMPAIGN — Sanjiv Chopra's face lights up when he discusses his two children.

He and his wife Archana have plenty of reason to smile when chatting about their son Varun and daughter Mira. Not only are the two strong in their academics and willing to engage just about anyone in conversation, but they also are on a path to becoming Division I siblings.

Ex-Storm star sinks hole-in-one at Twin City

CHAMPAIGN — Conditions were pleasant for Saturday's first round of the Twin City golf tournament at Champaign Country Club.

Sunny skies.

Temperature in the low- to mid-70s.

Only a slight breeze for wind.
