Flodstrom, Bushue propel Centennial

MATTOON – Ben Flodstrom broke a 1-1 tie with a second-half goal and Centennial went on to defeat Mattoon 3-1 in a Big 12 boys' soccer match Saturday.

Jacob Bushue scored the Chargers' other two goals, including one on a penalty kick for the final tally. The Indiana University commitment also assisted on Flodstrom's goal.

Goalkeeper Andy Drackley had six saves for the Chargers, who improved to 5-1-1 in the Big 12.

At Gilman. St. Thomas More clinched its first Sangamon Valley Conference title with a 3-0 victory against Iroquois West. Tyler Johnson had a goal and an assist for the Sabers.

At Urbana. Marco Sardela and Adam Blackman struck for unassisted goals in the first half to lead Urbana to a 2-0 nonconference victory against Springfield.

At Danville. Ian Burgess had a goal and three assists, sparking Danville to a 6-0 victory against Hoopeston/Bismarck-Henning. The Vikings outshot the visitors 15-2 in climbing back to the .500 mark at 7-7-4.

Roman Tapia added two goals for the Big 12 Conference Vikings.

At Normal. Michael Brooks and Andrew Shroyer each had unassisted goals for Mahomet-Seymour in a 5-2 loss to Normal University High.

At Fithian. David Tuggle scored two goals for Oakwood in a 5-0 victory against Salt Fork. Kegan Decker, Taylor Beck and Phil Sporcich also scored for the Comets. Goalkeeper Ben Schmit had three saves in the win.
