Saturday's highlights: Hoopeston punches sectional soccer ticket

■ Hoopeston Area 4, Watseka 0. David Cornelius scored twice and Trey Layden produced a shutout in goal, leading the host Cornjerkers to a Class 1A regional title. Brennan Crose added a goal and two assists as Hoopeston Area improved to 17-4 heading into a sectional semifinal against St. Thomas More on Tuesday at Gilman.
■ O’Fallon Tournament. Champaign Central went 5-0, clinching the tournament title with a 25-17, 12-25, 15-7 victory against the host school. Katie Sloniger, who totaled 57 digs for the Maroons, was named to the all-tournament team. Alyssa Olson had 34 kills and 10 blocks for Central, while Emma Atkinson and Kelley McDonald combined for 113 assists.
■ Morgan Buerkett Tournament. Mahomet-Seymour went 3-2 and finished third in the six-team tournament. Tori Veldman totaled 35 kills and hit .299 for the Bulldogs. Mason Moore added 93 assists and Sirena Woo racked up 68 digs for M-S. Host St. Thomas More went 3-2 behind Lexi Wallen’s 54 kills and 38 digs. Katie GIllette finished with 51 digs and Liz Bristow totaled 24 kills and 37 digs for the Sabers. Wallen and Gillette were joined on the eight-player all-tournament team by Velman, Moore and Lizzie Barnard of Unity.
■ Lincoln-Way Central Invitational. Centennial went 4-1 and placed fifth in the 16-team tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Alivia Dew made the all-tournament team.
■ Vermilion County tournament. Emilie McFadden had 25 kills as Salt Fork (22-5) went 3-0 in pool play. Kalyn Learnard totaled 28 digs and Allie Trosper finished with 51 assists for the Storm.
■ Beecher Invitational. Schlarman beat LeRoy 25-14, 25-15 in the title match to cap a 5-0 run in the 12-team tournament. All-tournament selection Laura Gross totaled 43 kills, 38 digs and 17 blocks for the Hilltoppers (20-3). Teammate Jordan Marganski contributed 56 assists and 21 blocks. AshLynn Cowles of LeRoy was named to the all-tournament team after totaling 43 kills, 35 digs and eight service aces in five matches. Tori Swanson added 25 kills and 46 digs for the Panthers, who went 3-1-1.
■ Macon County tournament. Cerro Gordo went 3-2 and broke the school record for victories en route to winning the consolation championship. The Broncos (23-5) rallied to defeat Warrensburg-Latham 23-25, 25-23, 15-10 for the consolation title. Makenzie Wagoner led CG in kills in four of its matches.
Argenta-Oreana went 0-5 to fall to 7-18. Alexa Jones led the Bombers in kills in each match.
