CHAMPAIGN — Peter Wagner is preparing for an important week.

The Champaign Central boys' soccer goalie takes to the Mt. Zion pitch today for a Class 2A regional semifinal match against Charleston. The senior is trying to help the top-seeded Maroons (18-4) to their first piece of IHSA postseason hardware since 2007.

MAHOMET — If the old adage "defense wins championships" holds true when Mahomet-Seymour boys' soccer starts its postseason run today, the Bulldogs could be in for a treat.

Coach Jeremy Davis' group completed a wild regular season with five ties, three penalty-kick shootouts and separate win streaks of five and three matches.

The Judah Christian junior took a ball directly to the stomach from close range with 11 seconds to play in Saturday's Class 1A regional final versus Unity.
