Tuesday's highlights: Chargers, Maroons score big on pitch

In soccer

Central 9, Eisenhower 1. EMANUEL KOMBA scored four goals, two in each half, and EDDIE LUBAGA added a hat trick to lead the visiting Maroons to a Big 12 victory. JUAN RAMOS added three assists for Central.

Centennial 7, MacArthur 2. LONNIE BARNES scored four goals — two coming on headers off PETER MEHNERT corner kicks — to spark the Chargers. BRENT LOTH had three assists.

Blue Ridge 4, Olympia 1. JONATHAN MALONE had a hat trick for the host Knights.

Oakwood 2, Fisher/GCMS 2. JORDAN SIZEMORE scored twice for Fisher/GCMS, while ANGELA ELLIOTT and COLE BURRIS tallied goals for the Comets.

Monticello 4, Charleston 0. LUKE HANSELMAN, JACOB HANSELMAN and MATT WELLS had goals and the Sages benefited from an own goal in the victory. Keeper JOSH SCHUMACHER made six saves.

St. Thomas More 3, Clifton Central 1. DAN SHIN scored in the ninth minute to lead the Sabers to a win in the Sangamon Valley Conference tourney.

Iroquois West 1, Watseka 0. The Raiders won a shootout 5-3 to take the victory. Keeper HECTOR REYES was credited with four saves.

In boys' cross-country

At Mahomet. JOHN SEYLER placed 24th for Urbana in a four-team race at Lake of the Woods.

At Sullivan. Sullivan-Okaw Valley's CAMERON HARVEY was the individual winner in 17 minutes, 15 seconds in a four-team meet at Tabor Park.

In girls' cross-country

At Sullivan. TORI MURPHY placed seventh to lead Sullivan-Okaw Valley in a meet that included winner Shelbyville, Maroa-Forsyth and Argenta-Oreana.

At Mahomet. RACHEL RODRIGUEZ was third and TESSA HANLON seventh for Mahomet-Seymour, which took second behind Normal U-High in a four-team meet at Lake of the Woods.

In girls' tennis

At Champaign. ALLISON HANSEN, SONG LEE, ANNIE ROH, SOPHIE KIM and ANGELITA REPETTO posted singles victories in Centennial's 7-2 win against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.

At Bloomington. CAROLINE KOCH and BRENNA MOONEY teamed for a win at No. 3 doubles in Champaign Central's 8-1 loss to Bloomington.

In swimming & diving

At Urbana. GABI RAJIC captured the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke to help Urbana defeat Centennial. Urbana's KIRSTEN SLAUGHTER won the 50 free and 100 free, while the Chargers' AUDREY RODAWIG was victorious in the 200 free and the 100 fly.

In boys' golf

At Savoy. Urbana's C.G. FACER shot 2-under 34 as medalist, while Centennial defeated the Tigers and LeRoy on the UI Blue.

KALEB VAUGHN's 42 led the Chargers.

At Urbana. RICHARD HARRINGTON's 35 was good for medalist honors as St. Thomas More (143) defeated Judah Christian and Villa Grove at Stone Creek.

In girls' golf

At Urbana. St. Thomas More defeated Kankakee Bishop McNamara behind medalist KELSEY GALLIVAN's 38. SIERRA MYERSCOUGH added a 39.

In volleyball

At Westville. Abby Barth had seven kills, but the host Tigers lost 26-28, 25-20, 17-15 to North Vermillion (Ind.).

At Urbana. JAMIE BLUE had nine kills as Urbana Uni beat Atwood-Hammond 20-25, 25-21, 25-16.

At Fisher. JANIE SKULBORSTAD collected 10 kills and JULIA HINDERS added four blocks as St. Thomas More beat Fisher 25-22, 25-17.

At Monticello. SAMMI TERSTRIEP had seven kills and JAIMEY WATROUS added four aces as Monticello edged Rantoul 21-25, 25-21, 25-20.
