Saturday's prep highlights: Chargers win volleyball invite

In volleyball

At Champaign. Centennial rallied to defeat Lockport 23-25, 25-23, 15-10 to win the Chargers' 16-team invitational. RACHEL JONES, KARA JOHNSON and KELLY WACHTEL represented Centennial on the 12-player all-tourney squad. Sixth-place Champaign Central placed JAELYN WESTFIELD on the squad, and seventh-place Mahomet-Seymour was represented by EMMA CABUTTI.

At Manteno. JESSICA ALLHANDS and HAYLEY GRAY were named to the all-tourney team as Watseka went 5-0 to capture the Manteno Invitational championship. Allhands had seven kills and Gray had four blocks in a title-clinching 25-18, 25-15 victory against Grant Park.

In soccer

Champaign Central 1, Bradley-Bourbonnais 0. KANYE SAYON scored in the first half and keeper TANNER GOSLIN earned the shutout as the Maroons improved to 3-0.

Blue Ridge 4, Schlarman 1. JONATHAN MALONE had three goals and Blue Ridge snapped a 1-1 halftime tie.

St. Joseph-Ogden 2, Iroquois West 0. COLIN SEWARD scored twice for the visiting Spartans.

Mahomet-Seymour 3, Unity 3. BEN WINN scored twice as Unity rallied from a 2-0 halftime deficit. BRENNEN KRAFT and ZACH MOORE scored for the Bulldogs, who also benefited from an own goal.

Urbana Uni 3, Monticello 0. GEORGE VOULGARIS scored twice and TARIK KORIC added another, all in the second half, for the host Illineks. Keeper CHRIS NGUYEN earned the shutout.

At Springfield. Centennial dropped a pair of matches in the Sacred Heart-Griffin tournament, falling to Rockton Hononegah 3-0 and Sacred Heart-Griffin 3-2. LONNIE BARNES and BRENT LOTH had second-half goals to pull Centennial even in the second match, but Sacred Heart-Griffin scored the decisive goal on a direct kick.

At Quincy. Keeper STEPHEN MIELKE had four saves in Danville's 1-0 loss to Columbia (Mo.) Hickman in the Quincy Notre Dame tournament. Mielke made eight saves in a 5-0 loss to the host school.

In girls' tennis

At Champaign. SHOHAM BAND won at No. 1 singles and Champaign Central swept the doubles in an 8-1 victory against Decatur MacArthur. The Maroons also beat Rantoul 9-0.

At Pekin. Danville swept the doubles titles as the Vikings won the five-team Pekin Invitational. RACHAEL LEWIS and REBECCA LEWIS teamed to win at No. 1 doubles, while COURTNEY HART and NEHA PATEL earned the No. 2 crown. TAYLOR ELLIS was victorious at No. 3 singles.

In girls' swimming

At Olympia. MILDRED NELSON won the 100-yard butterfly and the 100 back to lead Urbana Uni past Olympia 129-42. She also swam on two victorious relays.

In cross-country

At Charleston. Danville's JOHNNY LEVERENZ was fourth and Mahomet-Seymour took team honors at the Charleston Invitational. Leverenz finished in 15 minutes, 53 seconds. The Bulldogs were led by sixth-place JOHN BUTCHER (15:56). LUCAS PRATHER was ninth (16:23) and JONATHON SCHAAP 10th (16:38).

In the girls' meet, HANNAH WRIGHT placed 13th to lead Champaign Central to fourth at the nine-team Charleston Invitational. Wright's time was 21:07.
