Tuesday's prep highlights: Seward lifts SJ-O

In boys' soccer

SJ-O 3, Clifton Central 2. COLIN SEWARD scored twice as the Spartans held on. COLE JOHNSTON also scored in a 2-0 first-half getaway.

Uni High 6, Fisher/GCMS 1. GEORGE VOULGARIS and PATRICK WONG each scored twice and had an assist for the Illineks, who got two assists from RANDALL HORNBAKER.

St. Thomas More 1, Iroquois West 0. In the Sangamon Valley opener for both teams, DAN SHIN's header in the 50th minute was the difference for the host Sabers. Shin's 11th goal of the season occurred after KYLER JONES' mad dash down the field and the ensuing pass. The stingy Sabers have four shutouts this season.

Monticello 5, Mattoon 3. JACOB HANSELMAN and ELI SMITH each had two goals and an assist for the visiting Sages, who got a goal and assist from LUKE HANSELMAN.

Hoopeston Area 2, Mahomet-Seymour 1. ELIJAH YATES scored twice in the second half for the host Cornjerkers. ANDREW SHROYER had the Bulldogs' goal.

Sullivan-Lovington 6, Meridian 1. NATE HORTENSTINE had three goals and TANNER TYPER and DAVIE EMRICK sparked a solid defensive effort.

Blue Ridge 3, Judah Christian 1. The visiting Knights got three goals from JONATHAN MALONE.

Schlarman 3, Unity 2. The visiting Hilltoppers struck for three goals in the first half and hung on. BEN WINN and JOHN HUGHES scored for the Rockets.

In golf

At Urbana. C.G. FACER and J.T. DONAHUE each shot 42s as the Tigers finished third behind Mattoon and Bloomington in boys' action.

At Savoy. TANNER HARRIS shot a 38 as Rantoul/PBL beat Champaign Central and Decatur Eisenhower in boys' action at the UI Blue Course. JOE HORVAT led the Maroons with a 45.

At Savoy. DALY O'BRIEN shot 40 and TYLER TAYLOR 41 for Monticello, which tied Centennial in a three-team boys' match. ISAAC OVERMAN (42) and MATT WARREN (43) paced the Chargers.

At Mahomet. BROOKLYN HILDRETH was medalist at 43 and RANDAL BERNTHAL shot a 44 as Mahomet-Seymour won its own quad girls' meet. EVELYON BRAND (45) led Monticello.

At LeRoy. MOLLY MARCUM was medalist with a 39 to lead LeRoy past three teams. ANNA DEAN had a 49 for the Panthers.

At Champaign. With medalist NICK BERGER (35) leading the way, Judah Christian (176) beat Schlarman (198) and Villa Grove (246).

In cross-country

At Downs. HAYDEN YOUNG won in 16 minutes, 14 seconds as Paxton-Buckley-Loda won the boys' race.

In volleyball

At Monticello. GRACE BLICKHAN had seven kills and ELISE PONTIOUS added six aces and five assists as the Sages beat Bement 25-10, 25-16. SABRINA HINTON had four blocks and three kills in the loss.

At Mahomet. EMMA CABUTTI had 18 kills as Mahomet-Seymour beat Olympia 21-25, 25-20, 25-23 in its Corn Belt Conference opener.

At Gibson City. JORDYN NETTLETON served seven consecutive points in the second set as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley beat Tremont 25-18, 27-25. Jordyn and JAYMI NETTLETON each had five kills.

At Sullivan. PAIGE NEUHAUSER had 14 assists and six kills as Sullivan beat Lovington 25-9, 25-17.

At Atwood-Hammond. ELAINE DAVIS had five kills and ABBY BIALESCHKI had seven aces in the hosts' 25-16, 25-12 win against Villa Grove.

At Watseka. JESSICA ALLHANDS had seven kills and HAYLEY GRAY added six as the Warriors (11-0) beat Hoopeston Area 25-10, 25-21. KAT GRIMES chipped in 17 assists and three aces.

At Urbana. HANNAH JOHLAS had 11 kills, JAMIE BLUE 10 digs and JULIANA TRACH 25 assists as Urbana University High beat Normal Calvary 20-25, 25-12, 25-10.

At Danville. JESSICA GREER had 10 kills and five digs as First Baptist beat Cornerstone Christian Academy 25-23, 25-11.

At DeLand. MEGHAN LOWRY had nine kills as Arthur Okaw Christian beat DeLand-Weldon 25-16, 25-15.

At Oakland. KYLA SKINNER's six kills and four aces powered Tri-County to a 25-6, 25-9 thumping of Oblong.

At Catlin. JESSICA MUEHLHER collected six kills as Salt Fork stopped Shiloh 25-19, 25-18. EMILIE McFADDEN added five kills and three aces.

At Armstrong. Armstrong-Potomac got six kills from ERIKA SIEBERNS in a 25-22, 25-14 victory against Westville.

At Cerro Gordo. LEAH HENRICKS' six kills and four blocks paced Cerro Gordo in an 18-25, 25-17, 25-19 loss to Decatur Lutheran.

At Champaign. MEGAN CASAGRANDE had 13 kills and ALLY HEFFERNAN added 10 as St. Thomas More beat St. Joseph-Ogden 25-22, 17-25, 25-15.

At Gilman. MARIA WILKENING dished out 23 assists in CPCI's 25-20, 21-25, 25-23 victory against Iroquois West.

At Tuscola. Tuscola beat Arcola 25-20, 22-25, 25-23 behind 12 kills from KELSEY CLELAND. SAM KOHLBECKER had 24 assists.
