Tuesday's highlights: Monticello boys, girls win OVC golf crowns

In soccer

Monticello 3, Blue Ridge 2. JACOB HANSELMAN and BILLY NIXON scored in the second half as the Sages snapped a 1-1 halftime tie. ELI SMITH added a goal for the winners. JONATHAN MALONE had a goal and an assist for the Knights.

Unity 3, St. Thomas More 2. LOGAN CUNNINGHAM scored twice for the Rockets.

St. Joseph-Ogden 5, Iroquois West 1. NICK GEERS and COLIN SEWARD scored two goals apiece and keeper KYLE ROEDL made nine saves for the Spartans.

Clifton Central 5, Watseka 1. JOSH DOUGLAS scored on a penalty kick for the Warriors.

Schlarman 8, Salt Fork/Westville 5. BROCK DREWS scored four goals, including three during the tide-turning second half, to rally the Hilltoppers to a home victory. ALEX BURKE and JORDAN ROMO had two goals apiece for the Storm.

In volleyball

At Urbana. EMMA HOYER and JAMIE BLUE had five kills apiece in Urbana Uni's 25-8, 25-10 victory against Normal Calvary.

At Pontiac. MAKENZIE HARTMAN collected six kills and four blocks to lead Mahomet-Seymour past Pontiac 25-20, 25-19.

At Fairbury. Prairie Central got three kills and three blocks from SARAH OPRONDEK in the Hawks' 25-18, 25-16 loss to Eureka.

At Bismarck. Bismarck-Henning improved to 12-1 with 25-13, 25-16 victory against Chrisman. SAMANTHA SIDDENS had 10 kills, MARANDA WITTY added seven and ABBY BERGMAN chipped in six.

At Shelbyville. Monticello rallied past Shelbyville for a 24-26, 25-12, 25-22 victory. SAMMI TERSTRIEP's eight kills led the Sages. ELISE PONTIOUS had five kills and 19 assists.

At Moweaqua. HANNAH MILLINGTON had two kills and two blocks in Argenta-Oreana's 25-17, 25-11 loss to Central A&M.

At Danville. Schlarman defeated Westville 25-17, 25-23 as LAURA GROSS registered eight kills, five blocks and three aces.

At Buckley. BRENNA FOUTS' 18 assists and six aces propelled Judah Christian to a 25-16, 25-18 victory against Buckley Christ Lutheran. CHRISTINA RUMMERY had 10 kills.

At Blue Ridge. KAITLYN ZELHART had 13 kills, five blocks and three aces, and JORDAN WHEELER chipped in 18 digs and three aces to pace the host Knights' 25-11, 20-25, 33-31 victory against Paxton-Buckley-Loda. EMILY ZELHART had 21 assists for Blue Ridge, which improved to 16-3.

At Arthur. KARLY GOODMAN and JULIA COHAN each had eight kills to power Arthur past Cerro Gordo 19-25, 25-16, 25-13.

At Lexington. JORDYN NETTLETON had six kills and ERICA BAILLIE added 16 assists in GCMS' 25-16, 25-21 loss to Lexington.

At Hume. Bement tripped Shiloh 25-21, 25-12 as TAYLOR WEGRICH collected nine kills and eight digs. SAMANTHA O'BRIEN distributed 15 assists.

At Stanford. TINA AGUIRRE had seven kills, but Rantoul lost 25-18, 21-25, 25-20 to Olympia in a Corn Belt matchup.

At Macon. BAILEY WALKER had nine kills and ALLY LAWSON led the defense with 20 digs in Clinton's 25-17, 27-25 victory against Meridian.

At Arthur. MEGHAN LOWRY had 26 kills to power Arthur Okaw Christian to a 25-11, 25-15 victory against Danville First Baptist. KRISTI GINGERICH had 25 assists.

At Broadlands. Tri-County got seven kills apiece from LIZZY BARNARD and KAYLA SKINNER in a 25-21, 25-18 win against Heritage.

At Villa Grove. AMANDA McCOLLOM had seven digs in Villa Grove's 25-14, 25-8 loss to Atwood-Hammond.

At Urbana. Danville defeated Urbana 23-25, 25-20, 25-23 despite six kills from the Tigers' KIARA SHELBY.

At Georgetown. DEVIN McFADDEN had six kills as Hoopeston Area beat Georgetown-Ridge Farm 25-12, 25-18.

At LeRoy. Fisher defeated LeRoy behind HANNAH FINK's nine kills and AUBREY PETTENGER's 28 digs.

In girls' golf

At Normal. LeRoy's MOLLY MARCUM won the Heart of Illinois Conference title with a 78. Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, backed by second- and third-place finishers EMILY SPANGLER (80) and KATIE SPANGLER (87), romped to the team title with a 361 total. Runner-up LeRoy finished at 403.

At Decatur. Monticello claimed the Okaw Valley Conference tournament championship behind EVELYN BRAND's 93. KAZA COMBS added a 116 to finish sixth for the Sages, who shot 479 to top runner-up Tuscola's 504.

In boys' golf

At Decatur. Monticello won the Okaw Valley Conference title on a tiebreaker. The Sages and Clinton finished at 342, but Monticello earned the crown based on the best score of each team's fifth-best score. Clinton's ZACH NEWBERRY was medalist with a 78 and teammate LOGAN WOOLRIDGE was third with an 80. Monticello got an 81 from fourth-place DREW HEFFLEY.

At Normal. CALEB GRAYBEAL of LeRoy fired an 86 to finish ninth in the Heart of Illinois Conference meet.

In girls' cross-country

At Tolono. Tuscola's LISA PONDER was the individual winner in 20:14 and St. Thomas More took team honors in a three-team meet. Runner-up CAROLINE DODDS (21:25) led the Sabers.

In boys' cross-country

At Tolono. Unity took five of the top six spots to defeat St. Thomas More, Tuscola and Villa Grove. COLBY PURCELL (17:50) was first and teammate Scott WOODARD (17:50) second for the Rockets.

In swimming & diving

At Champaign. KRISTIN VERKLER won the 100-yard butterfly and swam a leg on two victorious relays as Danville defeated Urbana Uni and Centennial. The Chargers' AUDREY RODAWIG won the 200 free and the 100 back.
