Thursday's prep highlights: Central volleyball victorious
At Champaign. Lexi SchweiGHart and Jaelyn Westfield each had seven blocks for Champaign Central in a 20-25, 25-20, 25-19 victory against Normal West.
At Urbana. Hannah Johlas had 20 digs and seven service aces for Urbana University High in a 21-25, 25-21, 27-25 loss to Decatur Lutheran. Jamie Blue finished with 12 kills for the Illineks (11-7).
At Danville. AlexIs JImson-Miller had 14 digs for the Vikings in a 25-7, 25-16 loss to Normal Community.
At Stanford. Mahomet-Seymour outbattled Olympia 25-20, 18-25, 25-20 behind Emma Cabutti's 16 kills and Abbie Magrini's 17 digs.
At DeLand. Judah Christian fell to DeLand-Weldon 13-25, 25-10, 25-18 despite Emily Gewirtz's 17 digs and two service aces.
At Eureka. Tina Aguirre had seven kills and three service aces for Rantoul in a 25-15, 25-23 loss to Eureka.
At Hume. Katie Douglas had five kills and seven digs for Villa Grove in a 25-14, 25-20 loss to Shiloh.
At Watseka. The Warriors defeated Iroquois West 25-17, 25-11 behind Hayley Gray's seven kills and five service aces. Kat Grimes had 19 assists for Watseka (22-2).
At Westville. Bismarck-Henning improved to 7-0 in the Vermilion Valley Conference with a 25-3, 25-12 victory against the Tigers. Bailey Bryant led the Blue Devils (13-1) with nine kills and six blocks. Destini Trosper and Mikayla Rolinitis combined for 19 digs for Westville.
At Argenta. Hannah Millington had five kills for Argenta-Oreana in a 25-14, 25-18 loss to Shelbyville. Cali Melton totaled seven assists and three service aces for the Bombers.
At Fairbury. Katie Kupferschmid had eight digs for Prairie Central in a 25-13, 25-16 loss to Normal University High.
At Minonk. Blue Ridge rallied to defeat Fieldcrest 23-25, 25-20, 25-20 behind Kaitlyn Zelhart's 17 kills and Emily Zelhart's 22 assists.
At Georgetown. Schlarman improved to 6-1 in the Vermilion Valley Conference with a 25-8, 25-21 defeat of Georgetown-Ridge Farm. Jordan Marganski and Rebecca Beaulier had five kills apiece for the Hilltoppers.
At Oakland. Tri-County defeated Arcola 25-12, 25-15 behind 20 assists by Amber Meyer, 10 kills by Kyla Skinner and 10 digs by Autumn Meyer. Alexis Conlin had eight digs for the Purple Riders.
At Catlin. Emilie McFadden had seven kills for Salt Fork in a 25-20, 28-26 loss to Hoopeston Area.
At Atwood. Despite Kaitie Wildman's 20 digs and seven service aces, Atwood-Hammond lost to Arthur 22-25, 25-22, 25-23. Julia Cohan led the Lancers with nine kills and five blocks.
At Bement. Sabrina Hinton's five kills and five digs lifted Bement to a 25-17, 25-11 victory against Lovington.
At Clifton. St. Joseph-Ogden defeated Clifton Central 25-13, 25-18 behind Emily Griswell's 19 assists and Josey Fruhling's five blocks.
At Buffalo. Arthur Okaw Christian improved to 15-1 with a 21-25, 25-15, 25-13 victory against Tri-City behind Meghan Lowry's 24 kills, seven blocks and seven digs.
At Chrisman. Daniele Hoult had 18 kills and Shelby Ross contributed 22 assists to lead the Cardinals to a 19-25, 25-8, 25-13 victory against Armstrong-Potomac.
At Sullivan. Paige Neuhauser had five kills and seven digs for Sullivan in a 25-19, 25-18-25 loss to Macon Meridian.
At Monticello. The Sages swept Tuscola 25-17, 25-17 behind Elise Pontious' six kills and Kaitlyn Hunt's 15 digs. Mackenzie Seip had seven kills, five blocks and three service aces for the Warriors.
At Cerro Gordo. Mariah Coleman's 11 kills and 12 blocks boosted Heritage to a 25-18, 25-19 victory against Cerro Gordo. Morgan Neisslie had six digs for the Broncos.
At Fisher. Jacy Cochran's nine kills and five blocks lifted Fisher to a 25-10, 25-13 win against Flanagan.
At Clinton. The Maroons lost to Warrensburg-Latham 25-23, 25-23 despite 16 digs by Shanae Ritter.
In boys' golf
At Danville. Team champion Bismarck-Henning had the top two individuals and five of the top seven placers in the Vermilion Valley Conference tournament at Harrison Park. ANDY BOTT fired a 73 and beat teammate AUSTIN TOLER by 4 strokes for medalist honors. Chrisman's AUSTIN MERRITT was third (77), followed by the Blue Devils' STEPHEN KROUT (77). Schlarman's team was second, led by fifth-place finisher JORDAN KING (78).
At Mahomet. Led by medalist Richard Harrington, St. Thomas More had five of the top six scorers in rolling to the team title of the Sangamon Valley Conference tournament at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. Harrington fired a 76 and finished 5 strokes in front of teammates Matt Tate and Aaron Pinkerton, who tied for second place. STM won with a 324 total, 49 strokes in front of runner-up CPCI.
At Gibson City. Jake Warmoth of Fisher scored a 42 to finish second in a three-team meet at Railside Golf Club. Jacob Wohlwend led second-place LeRoy with a 44.
At Mahomet. Centennial defeated Judah Christian 156-183 at Lake of the Woods Golf Course behind medalist Peter Black's 35. Nick Berger of the Tribe and the Chargers' Jeff Lazuka tied for second with 39s.
In girls' golf
At Danville. Salt Fork's COURTNEY LaFOE shot a 94 and won medalist honors in the Vermilion Valley Conference meet by 7 shots over Hoopeston Area's MEGAN GRIMES at Harrison Park. Schlarman's KYLIE WEST (106) placed third.
At Mahomet. McKenzie Stipes beat St. Thomas More teammate Kelsey Gallivan in a one-hole playoff to capture medalist honors in the Sangamon Valley Conference tournament at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. Each shot 83s in regulation for the team champion Sabers.
At Farmer City. LeRoy's Molly Marcum shot a 39 to win by 5 strokes and Prairie Central captured the team title in a four-school meet at Woodlawn Golf Course. Jackie Duffy and Jenna Hale each carded 44 to tie for second place, leading the Hawks to a 4-stroke win against LeRoy.
At Mahomet. Medalist Charlotte Goss (41) and Danielle Ellis (46) led Mahomet-Seymour to a 32-stroke victory in a three-team meet at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. Janice Choo and Chloe Pankau carded 53s to lead third-place Champaign Central.
In boys' soccer
Urbana University High 7, Calvary Christian Academy 0. Tarik Koric and Alex Mestre each had a goal and two assists for the Illineks in a home win.
Judah Christian 5, Oakwood/Salt Fork 2. Malik Williams' hat trick and two goals by Matt Zuckermann propelled the Tribe (5-10-1) to a road victory.
Unity 2, St. Joseph-Ogden 1. Logan Cunningham's second-half goal broke a 1-1 tie and lifted the Rockets to a road victory. Ben Winn of Unity opened the scoring before Colin Seward pulled the Spartans even in the first half.
Salt Fork/Westville 6, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 3. Alex Burke, Noah Darr and Jordan Romo scored two goals apiece for the Storm in a road victory. Freshman goalkeeper Bobby Durnell had 14 saves for Salt Fork/Westville (5-7-0). Zach Morgan and Brittany Hay scored unassisted goals for G-RF.
Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning 3, Schlarman 2. The Cornjerkers held a 4-3 edge in penalty kicks to win a home match. Brandon Clapp scored the decisive goal, and teammate Ben Brummet made three saves in the penalty-kick showdown.
Fisher/GCMS 7, Watseka 0. Jordan Sizemore scored five goals and had two assists to lead the Bunnies to a home victory. Keeper Darren Eckerty recorded three saves in the shutout.
Iroquois West 4, Cornerstone Christian Academy 1. Iroquois West held a 16-2 edge in shots and received two goals from Giovanni Vergara in winning at home.
Bloomington 4, Mahomet-Seymour 0. Keeper Trevor Rice had three saves for the Bulldogs in a road loss.
Monticello 7, Meridian 1. The Sages rolled to a road win behind two goals apiece by Billy Nixon and Luke Hanselman.
In girls' tennis
At Urbana. St. Thomas defeated Watseka 7-2 at Atkins Tennis Center. Madie Baillon of the Sabers won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and combined with Alyssa Vodacek for an 8-0 victory at No. 1 doubles.
In boys' cross-country
At Chrisman. Matt Avenatti and Wyatt Avenatti finished 1-2 to lead Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman to a 21-35 victory against Bismarck-Henning. Matt Avenatti was clocked in 17 minutes, 3 seconds, winning by 32 seconds. Kenneth Albin placed third for B-H in 17:52.
In girls' cross-country
At Chrisman. Megan McKee of Georgetown-Ridge Farm/Chrisman placed first in 22:13 in an unscored dual meet against Bismarck-Henning. Runner- up Ellen Dulin of B-H finished in 23:30.
