Saturday's prep highlights: Uni tops Urbana in soccer

In soccer

Urbana Uni 5, Urbana 2. PATRICK WONG scored twice, and Urbana Uni pulled away in the second half. Wong's goal in the 13th minute gave the Illineks the lead for good. GEORGE VOULGARIS had three assists for Uni (16-1). TARIK KORIC, CONRAD SCHLOER and DAX EARL also scored for the Illineks. SAUL DOWNIE and MAZIN JUDEH had Urbana's goals.

Normal Community 7, Mahomet-Seymour 0. Bulldogs keepers TREVOR RICE (eight) and TODD METZGER (five) combined for 13 saves.

Danville 2, Normal West 1. ZACH DOWNING scored on a penalty kick with 51 seconds left to lift the Vikings. ROMAN TAPIA gave Danville a 1-0 lead in the second half.

Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning 8, G-RF 0. ELIJAH YATES and BRANDON CLAPP scored two goals apiece for the Cornjerkers. BEN BRUMETT posted his eighth shutout of the season.

At Danville. St. Thomas More went 2-1 in the Schlarman tournament. The Sabers beat Fisher/Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 3-1 behind a goal and two assists from ZACH SHIN. They also defeated Salt Fork/Westville 4-1 as Shin added two goals and an assist. Schlarman beat STM 2-0. Fisher/GCMS went 2-1 as JORDAN SIZEMORE broke the school single-season record for goals with 32.

In girls' tennis

At Bloomington. Danville finished fourth of 16 teams in the Bloomington Purple and Gold Invitational. BECCA LEWIS led the Vikings with a third-place finish at No. 4 singles.

In swimming & diving

At Danville. KRISTIN VERKLER captured the 100-yard butterfly, 100 freestyle and the 200 individual medley for Danville in the Vikings' pentathlon.

At Peoria. Centennial's AUDREY RODAWIG won the 200 free (1 minute, 56.65 seconds) and the 100 fly (59.34) in Peoria Richwoods' 11-team invitational.

In boys' golf

At Normal. Centennial placed second in the 10-team Unit 5 Best Ball tournament at Ironwood Golf Course. PETER BLACK and JONATHAN SHERRICK teamed to shoot a 71, as did teammates CHRISTIAN KHACHATURIAN and JEFF LAZUKA.

At Bloomington. Judah Christian's NICK BERGER (60) and RYAN ERHARD (62) finished second and third, respectively, to help the Tribe place third in the Bloomington 14-Holer at Highland Park Golf Course.

At Gibson City. Mahomet-Seymour finished second in the Corn Belt Conference tournament at Railside behind 81s from GARRETT COX and JARED ATHERTON.

In girls' golf

At Savoy. GCMS' EMILY SPANGLER shot 86 on the UI Blue Course to tie for 16th in the John Macek Memorial. The Falcons took fifth in the 18-team event, which was won by Prospect. Centennial's MADISON WHITE shot 93 to tie for 24th.

At Gibson City. CHARLOTTE GOSS (76) was second and DANIELLE ELLIS (82) third to lead Mahomet-Seymour to second place in the Corn Belt Conference tournament at Railside.

In girls' cross-country

At Peoria. Urbana's NICOLE CHOQUETTE placed 16th in the Peoria Central Invitational while setting a school record in the 47-team meet. Choquette was timed in 17:49.45, breaking the previous mark by 42 seconds.

At Forrest. SIERRA STEIDINGER and CARRIE RINKENBERGER finished 16th and 17th, respectively, for Prairie Central in its six-team invitational.

In boys' cross-country

At Forrest. STIRLING SOMMER took 10th to lead Prairie Central in the Hawks' invite.

At Peoria. Danville's JOHNNY LEVERENZ was ninth in 15:02.56 in a field of 381 runners in the Peoria Central Invitational.

In volleyball

At Pana. Sullivan finished third in the six-team Pana Invitational, winning three of five matches. PAIGE NEUHAUSER collected 49 kills in the tourney.

At Riverton. Clinton's MORGAN HICKMAN earned recognition on the 10-player all-tourney team in the Riverton Fall Classic. Clinton went 2-2.
