Thursday's prep highlights: Ponders sweep races

In cross-country

At Monticello. ERIC PONDER, JOHN EVANS and CHAS CAMPBELL finished 1-2-3 as Tuscola won the boys' meet against Monticello. Tuscola's SUE PONDER won the girls' race, but the Sages, led by freshmen KATIE DOUGLAS (second place) and KATHLEEN TRACY (third), took the team title.

In golf

At Savoy. BROOKLYN HILDRETH (42), AMBER TABAKA (46) and EMILY TROLIA (47) led Mahomet-Seymour to a 12-stroke win at a three-team meet. KATELYNN MARTINEZ (47) paced third-place Centennial.

At Farmer City. Monticello's EVELYN BRAND (41) was medalist and teammate KAZA COMBS shot 45 as the Sages won a three-team match with a school-record nine-hole score (198). It marked the third consecutive match the Sages have lowered the record.

At Gibson City. KATIE SPANGLER's 47 paced Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley past Hoopeston Area, which was led by KIERSTEN WILSON's 47.

In a three-team boys' meet, ANDY BOTT (36), AUSTIN TOLER (37) and DAVID WARREN (38) led Bismarck-Henning to a 27-stroke win. Hoopeston Area's TRISTEN TROSPER had a 43.

At Danville. Medalist DALTON DIEU (41) helped Schlarman stay unbeaten with a 13-stroke win against Westville, which was led by JAKE BARNYARD's 45.

At Bloomington. First-place Blue Ridge's DYLAN WEIDNER (39) was medalist. MASON POTTS and C.J. BISHOP each shot 42 for the Knights.

At Atlanta. JESS WOHLWEND's 48 led LeRoy past Olympia.

In soccer

Urbana 7, Charleston 0. JONATHAN LUKUSA and BRIAN LOPEZ each scored twice and SAUL DOWNIE had three assists as the area's top-rated team cruised at home.

Central 4, Mattoon 2. EMMANUEL KOMBA had a goal and an assist and FELI KELI had two assists for the visiting Maroons (4-1-0).

Bloomington 2, Danville 0. CAMERON GRIFFIN had eight saves for the Vikings (1-5-3).

Centennial 6, Eisenhower 0. DIAMOND WILLIAMS scored twice as the unbeaten Chargers (3-0-1) used a four-goal first half in the Big 12 win. ANDY DRACKLEY and OSCAR ALMARAZ combined for the team's third shutout.

Iroquois West 3, Unity 2. GETCH EISENMENGER had a goal and an assist, but the Raiders fell at home.

SJ-O 2, Mount Zion 1. CAMERON HARPST scored off an AUSTIN BAKER pass to break a second-half tie for St. Joseph-Ogden.

Hoopeston Area/B-H 7, Oakwood 0. CHASE BOUSE scored twice and TREY ANDERSON posted his second shutout.

Normal U-High 3, Mahomet-Seymour 0. AJ ELLIS had five saves for the Bulldogs, who were tied 0-0 at the break.

Salt Fork/Westville 6, Schlarman 1. JORDAN ROMO had three goals and ALEX BURKE scored twice for the Storm (4-0), which got six saves from AARON MARX.

In swimming

Centennial 93, Bloomington 77. The Chargers finished 1-2 in the 100-yard free (SARA REGAN, EMMA GARCIA-CANGA) and 100 breast (REMY MILLER, MARIE JEFFERSON).

In tennis

Mattoon 7, St. Thomas More 2. MADIE BAILLON won at singles and teamed with ALYSSA VODACEK to win at No. 1 doubles for the host Sabers.

Centennial 9, Central 0. ALLISON HANSEN (No. 1), SANJANA ANIL (No. 4) and SOPHIE KIM (No. 5) didn't lose a game for the visiting Chargers.

Danville 8, Rantoul 1. The Vikings' top three singles players — TAYLOR ELLIS, COURTNEY HART, KATIE KOBRICH — combined to lose two games to set the tone.

In volleyball

Centennial 2, Sacred Heart-Griffin 0. KARA JOHNSON (11 kills, five digs), PAULINA NOTTINGHAM (12 assists) and LINDSAY ROGAN (11 digs) sparked the Chargers, 25-18, 25-20.

Tri-County 2, Atwood-Hammond 0. KYLA SKINNER (seven kills, three aces) and AMBER MEYER (16 assists) led the Titans to a 25-17, 25-17 win. CHANTELL BONHAM had five kills for A-H.

Tremont 2, Blue Ridge 1. EMILY ZELHART had 22 assists, GABBY PEARL had eight kills and CHANDLER MORROW had 22 digs in a 25-21, 23-25, 25-23 loss.

Chrisman 2, Oakwood 0. KELSEY POTTER's five kills and five aces powered the Cardinals 25-21, 25-12. HARLENA HARDIN had three kills in the loss.

Watseka 2, Momence 0. ALLISON KAPER's 10 kills led the 12-0 Warriors to a 25-15, 25-11 win.

Sullivan 2, Charleston 0. WITTEN CRAWFORD had five kills and three blocks to pace the Redskins (7-3) in a 25-20, 25-17 win.

Westville 2, Hoopeston Area 0. KAITIE SHAW's seven kills led the Tigers, 25-12, 25-16.

Armstrong-Potomac 2, Milford 0. ERIKA SIEBERNS, RACHEL MILES and MEGAN PORTER each had five kills for A-P in a 25-12, 25-16 win. MORGAN ZINDARS added seven assists and six aces.

Bement 2, Cerro Gordo 0. SABRINA HINTON's eight blocks and six kills paced the Bulldogs, 25-19, 25-19.

Tri-Valley 2, LeRoy 0. STEFANIE SANIDAS' seven kills sparked Tri-Valley, 25-15, 25-15. TORI SWANSON's four kills led LeRoy.

M-S 2, Rantoul 0. ELISE DAHLKE had seven kills and MADDIE SEE had four blocks as Mahomet-Seymour won 25-22, 25-21. The Eagles were led by ChaQUERA CROSS' 15 digs.

Unity 2, Villa Grove 0. KELSEY DEES' three kills and two aces led the Blue Devils in a 25-8, 25-10 loss.

Salt Fork 2, G-RF 0. EMILY McFADDEN (five kills), KALYN LEARNARD (six aces) and JENNA BRYANT (11 assists) lifted the Storm, 25-11, 25-20.

A-L 2, Okaw Valley 0. JULIA COHAN's four aces and three kills led Arthur-Lovington, 25-12, 25-17.

PBL 2, Iroquois West 0. KANDACE HOFER's 10 kills and KAYLA COWAN's 19 assists led Paxton-Buckley-Loda, 25-13, 25-14.

Mount Pulaski 2, Clinton 0. MORGAN HICKMAN's 10 digs and 11 assists led Clinton in a 25-16, 25-20 loss.
