Athletes of the Week: Elliott and Jones

Mercedes Elliott

Danville, Freshman, Cross-country

Recently: She was the individual winner in Saturday's 26-team Olney cross-country invitational. She owns the school's best time for a freshman (19 minutes, 35 seconds), which ranks second among all classes.

In her own words: "I'm surprised I'm doing so well. I just wanted to come in and run under 20 (minutes). I just go out there and not think about anything."

Where did "Mercedes" come from? I guess my dad was thinking about cars when I was born.

I'm dying to see ... "House at the End of the Street."

I'm driving ... I'm 14.

How about when you're 16? A Mercedes

I need concert tickets to ... One Direction.

My first job ... I'm helping my parents, delivering The Commercial-News.

In five years ... I hope to be in college, studying to be a neurosurgeon.

Recently: Hat trick in Saturday's win against Oakwood equaled his goal total for first 11 matches of the season, helping the Sabers to their 10th win of the young season. Also had four assists in the same match.

In his own words: "It's really been a team effort, and it's not just a single performance. We've all come together and worked as a team, and that's how we win."

My soccer role model is ... Didier Drogba.

If I tried a bicycle kick ... my friends would probably laugh at me.
