Tuesday's highlights: STM soccer wins SVC tourney title

In boys’ golf

At Savoy.
Led by medalist GreY Schultz and two other top-three scorers, Centennial advanced to sectionals by winning a Class 2A regional at the University of Illinois Orange Course. Schultz, who fired a 76, was followed by Charger teammates Christian Khachaturian (79) and Ryan Hunt (80). Centennial captured the team crown by 22 shots.
Eight area golfers advanced as individuals, a group led by Prairie Central’s Kyler Hoffman (81), Urbana’s C.G. Facer (83) and Rantoul/PBL’s Brock Peavler (84).

At Gibson City. Cameron Westjohn won medalist honors by 4 strokes, leading Tuscola to the team crown in a Class 1A regional at Railside Golf Club. The Warriors were among three area teams advancing to sectionals, along with runner-up St. Thomas More and third-place Judah Christian.
Westjohn carded a 71 to pull away from runner-up Nick Berger of Judah Christian. Ryan Erhard of the Tribe placed third with a 78, and Christopher Tate of STM was fourth with an 80.
Fifth-place Harrison Lesck of Schlarman shot an 85 to lead 10
area golfers who advanced as individuals.

At Dwight. Medalist Andy Bott and four teammates finished in the top 11, leading Bismarck-Henning to a Class 1A regional title and a team berth in sectionals. Bott shot a 79 at Dwight Country Club to win by 2 strokes. David Warren (83) and Austin Toler (84) of the Blue Devils placed third and fourth, respectively. B-H finished 22 shots in front of runner-up Dwight.
Seven area golfers advanced as individuals, including Watseka’s Romer Gillespie, who tied for fifth with an 86.

At Normal. Danville’s Trey Davis advanced to sectionals by shooting a 78 and placing 14th in a Class 3A regional at Ironwood Golf Course. The Vikings finished seventh in the nine-team field.

At Lincoln. Tyler Taylor of Monticello shot an 86, tying for 19th place and advancing to sectionals as an individual, in a Class 2A regional at Lincoln Elks Golf Club.

At Windsor. Lucas Mossman of Sullivan shot an 86 in a Class 1A regional at Angus Links Golf Course, advancing to sectionals as an individual.

At El Paso. LeRoy placed 10th in the 12-team Class 1A regional and did not advance any individuals to sectionals.

In volleyball

PBL 2, Donovan 0.
Kandace Hofer’s 11 kills lifted the Panthers to a 25-14, 25-15 home win.

Armstrong-Potomac 2, Westville 0. The visiting Trojans pulled out a 27-25, 26-24 victory behind Rachel Miles’ 13 digs and eight kills.

Bismarck-Henning 2, G-RF 0. Abby Bergman’s seven digs, four blocks and four kills propelled the Blue Devils to a 25-7, 25-7 road win against Georgetown-Ridge Farm.

Schlarman 2, Salt Fork 0. Emilie McFadden had eight digs and three kills for the host Storm.

Urbana University High 2, Judah Christian 0. The host Illineks won 25-15, 25-12 behind Emma Hoyer’s 19 kills and four blocks. Emily Gewirtz had eight digs for the Tribe.

Hoopeston Area 2, Oakwood 0. Devin McFadden’s nine kills and 15 assists led the Cornjerkers to a 25-21, 25-23 road win. Harlena Hardin had five blocks for the Comets.

Ridgeview 2, Cissna Park 0. The Mustangs rallied to win 15-25, 25-18, 25-12 behind a foursome of players who reached double figures in digs, led by Lindsey Graham’s 14. Madison Overby had 10 kills and Hillary Hines blocked 11 shots for the Timberwolves.

Tremont 2, LeRoy 0. Lauren Russell had eight digs for the Panthers in a 25-14, 25-11 home loss.

Heyworth 2, Blue Ridge 0. Chandler Morrow had 12 digs for the Knights in a 25-21, 25-18 home loss.

Schlarman 2, Salt Fork 0. The Hilltoppers remained undefeated in the Vermilion Valley Conference at 8-0 with a 25-16, 25-16 road win. Jordan Marganski had 12 kills, 10 assists and seven blocks for Schlarman.

Sullivan 2, Tuscola 0. Haylie Payton’s 14 digs and six kills apiece by Witten Crawford and Heather Newman boosted the Redskins to a 25-19 25-11 home win.

Prairie Central 2, Olympia 0. The Hawks won 25-19, 25-18 at home behind Maddie Bounds’ nine kills, nine digs and five blocks.

Chrisman 2, Milford 0. Bridget Mattingly’s 10 digs paced the Cardinals in a 25-17, 25-17 home win.

Warrensburg-Latham 2, Argenta-Oreana 0. Alexa Jones had 10 kills and five blocks for the Bombers in a 25-20, 15-25, 25-23 home loss.

Mahomet-Seymour 2, Rantoul 1. Elise Dahlke had 16 kills and Sirena Woo contributed 23 digs, leading the Bulldogs to a 25-22, 21-25, 25-7 home win. ChaQuera Cross paced the Eagles with 23 digs.

Little Okaw Valley tournament:
Heritage 2, Arcola 0.
Taylor Edwards had nine digs for the Purple Riders in a 25-13, 25-19 loss at Bement.

Shiloh 2, Cerro Gordo 0. Lexie Minott had seven kills and three blocks for Shiloh in a 25-20, 25-20 win at Bement.

In boys’ soccer

Blue Ridge 2, Cornerstone Christian Academy 0.
Jon Jones and Travys Nichols scored for the Knights, who improved to 18-2-1 with the shutout win.

Judah Christian 4, Schlarman 0. Daniel Kurz and John Kuak each had one goal and one assist for the Tribe in a home win.

St. Thomas More 2, St. Joseph-Ogden 1. A penalty kick by Kyler Jones in overtime lifted the visiting Sabers to a Sangamon Valley Conference title-clinching win. Jones also scored STM’s first goal. It was the fourth consecutive SVC regular season crown for the Sabers, who won their 18th match of the season to set a school record.

Oakwood 3, Georgetown-Ridge Farm 1. Jason MackiewicZ’s second-half goal stood up as the winner for the visiting Comets.

Hoopeston Area/Bismarck-Henning 5, Salt Fork 1. The Vermilion Valley champion Cornjerkers improved to 8-0 in the conference behind Chase Bouse’s hat trick.

Mahomet-Seymour 4, Danville 1. The visiting Bulldogs won behind a pair of goals by Tyler Moxley, both unassisted. Freshman Lane DePratt scored his first career varsity goal for the Vikings.

Urbana 4, Normal Community 0. Miguel Fierro had two goals and one assist for the Tigers in a home win. Goalkeeper Brian Summers earned a shutout with seven saves.

Urbana University High 10, Unity 0. George Voulgaris’ hat trick highlighted a home win. Randall Hornbaker and Paul Seeley each had two goals.

In cross-country

At Sullivan.
Jeffrey Earnst of Arthur was the top finisher by 24 seconds in a four-school meet. Hannah Robinson finished second in the girls’ race, leading Sullivan-Okaw Valley to the team title.

At rural Danville. Mason Wagner of Bismarck-Henning edged Jon Davis of Oakwood by three seconds for first place, but the Comets captured the dual meet 28-29 at Kennekuk County Park.
Ellen Dulin of B-H was the top finisher of the unscored girls’ dual meet.

At Normal. Lauren Whitehouse of Mahomet-Seymour finished eighth in the five-team Normal University High Invitational.
Clinton’s Noah McClurg was the top area finisher in the boys’ race, placing 13th.
