Athletes of the Week: Cowan and Hanselman

Kayla Cowan, Paxton-Buckley-Loda, volleyball, Senior
Recently: Setter directed the Panthers to wins against three of the area’s top teams — Schlarman, Watseka and SJ-O — in a four-day span. The latter two wins clinched the regular season SVC title. She also broke her own single-match school record of 30 assists with 35 against Rantoul.
In her own words: “It was awesome, I knew we could do it. When we play our game, we can be really good.”
I’m driving ... an ‘04 Dodge Intrepid.
I’m dying to see ... “Sinister.”
I need concert tickets to ... Simple Plan.
I’m always texting ... my dad, Woody.
Next year ... I hope to play volleyball in college.
My first job ... Does babysitting count?
My favorite gym ... I like the sand courts more than the gyms.

Recently: Dominated the Okaw Valley Conference meet, winning by 14 seconds (15 minutes, 44 seconds).
In his own words: “It was a good race. I would say I am peaking. That was the fastest time I’ve ever run at home, Healthwise, fitnesswise, I’m where I want to be at.”
I’m driving ... a Ford Explorer.
I’m dying to see ... I liked “Taken,” but “Taken 2” hasn’t got the greatest reviews. I still want to see it.
I’m always texting ... my good friends, buds I’ve known since grade school.
I need concert tickets to ... The Illumineers or Mumford & Sons.
Next year ... I’m applying to Michigan, Purdue and Illinois. They are my top choices.
In five years ... I’m going to major in computer engineering
Favorite prerace meal ... Some sort of pasta
