Saturday's prep highlights: Storm victorious

In football
Salt Fork 30, Arcola 0. Jacob Hughes scored in the third quarter on a 1-yard run in the resumption of Friday’s weather-suspended game. When stormy weather again interrupted play later in the quarter, the game was called final. Salt Fork’s Taylor Kirby finished with 131 yards rushing.

Flanagan-Cornell 16, Oakwood/Armstrong-Potomac 0. The Comets were unable to score in the completion of a weather-suspended game.

In cross-country
At Normal. Reis DeSantis placed fourth in a 145-runner field to lead Centennial to fifth place in the eight-team Normal West Invitational. The senior finished in 16 minutes, 15 seconds. Two other Chargers placed in the top 35. Sophomore Evan Peirce (16:47) was 14th, and freshman Carter Ware (17:41) came in 35th.

Rebecca Kaefring, the lone Centennial entrant in the girls’ division, finished seventh out of 100 runners. The junior was clocked in 19:42.

In boys’ soccer
At Mahomet. Brennan Crose’s hat trick lifted Hoopeston Area to a 5-2 victory against Mahomet-Seymour in the Bulldog Kick-Off Tournament. Chase Bouse and Elijah Yates added two assists apiece for the Cornjerkers, who were declared co-champions when the title match against Mount Zion was canceled due to the weather. In its second match, Mahomet-Seymour edged Washington 3-2 behind Josh Brooks’ two goals.

At Bradley. Tim Ham’s unassisted goal boosted Champaign Central to a 1-0 victory against Danville in the third-place match of the Bradley-Bourbonnais Invitational. In the semifinals, the Maroons lost to Herscher and the Vikings lost to B-B, each in shootouts.

At Urbana. Urbana University High went 3-0 and did not allow a goal en route to winning the Uni Soccer Shootout. The Illineks outscored their three opponents 11-0. Chris Bauer had two goals for Uni in a 4-0 win against Fisher/GCMS. Panos Voulgaris scored twice in the Illineks’ 3-0 victory against Oakwood.

In volleyball
At Cissna Park. Watseka completed a 5-0 run to the Timberwolf Tip-Off title with a 25-11, 25-18 victory against Armstrong-Potomac. Earlier in the first-place pool, the Warriors swept Fisher 25-16, 25-11. A-P (4-1) finished second. Addison Stoller of Cissna Park was the top vote-getter on the 12-player all-tournament team. Rachel Miles of A-P was the No. 4 vote-getter.

At Eureka. Urbana finished third in the Eureka Invitation after splitting four matches. Anna Billman totaled 23 kills, and Kaitlyn Fouke racked up 10 service aces. LeRoy (1-3) received 27 kills and 10 aces from Tori Swanson, while Kayle Beadles contributed 46 digs.

At Colfax. Taylor Cultra totaled 13 kills and 25 digs for Iroquois West at the Ridgeview Invitational.

In girls’ tennis
At Champaign. Neha Patel and Amy Shah won the No. 2 doubles final to lead Danville to fourth place in the 16-team Centennial Invitational at Atkins Tennis Center and Lindsay Tennis Complex. Centennial’s Lauren Neitzel tied for fifth at No. 1 singles.
