Wednesday's prep highlights: SJ-O, STM win in soccer



n Danville 2, Westville 0. Thanks to three kills and three aces from MACKENZIE KING, the host Vikings won 25-21, 25-16. ASHLEY FORTHENBERRY added two blocks and four assists while MEGAN BURTON contributed two kills and two aces. MARIAH ROLINITIS led Westville with six digs and four kills.

n St. Joseph-Ogden 2, Heritage 0. SHELBY SIMMONS had nine kills and KARLIE BAKER had 21 assists to power the host Spartans, 25-11, 25-21. RACHEL MULLEN led the defense with eight digs. CEDAR RICHARDSON (seven kills), TAYLOR WIENKE (nine assists) and JEN LANDON (11 digs) led the Hawks.

n Jacksonville 2, Champaign Central 0. MADDIE LeGRANDE (seven kills), DANA WESTFIELD (six) and ALYSSA OLSON (five) sparked a balanced attack for the host Maroons, but it wasn’t enough in a 26-24, 25-16 loss to Jacksonville. EMMA ATTKINSON added 13 assists for Central.


Girls’ golf

n At Decatur. KATIE BROWN finished second individually, firing a 43 for Centennial, which finished second. Teammate KATIE SULLIVAN carded a 46 at Scovill Golf Club.

n At LeRoy. Led by ABBIE LEWIS’ 51, the host Panthers swept the top four spots in a win against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley. ANNIE CRUMBAUGH (52), COURTNEY MONIER (53) and KAILYN MORRELL (54) starred for LeRoy. GCMS got a 55 from EMILY ALLEN.


Boys’ golf

n At Savoy. Medalist CHRIS TATE’s 40 led St. Thomas More past Judah Christian and runner-up Monticello at the Blue Course. Teammate CHRIS VODACEK fired a 41 and CHANDLER BOLLMAN had a 42. Monticello got a 42 from SAM FORAN and Judah Christian was led by TYLER ERHARD’s 45.

n At Danville. ANDY BOTT fired a 2-under 34 to claim a medalist honors by 4 strokes in leading Bismarck-Henning at Harrison Park. Teammate DAVID WARREN had a 40. Oakwood’s BRANDON ROWE paced the Comets with a 38. Cissna Park’s SHANE IRBY carded a 41.

n At LeRoy. GCMS won the team title against runner-up LeRoy and Ridgeview behind DEVYN ROESCH, who tied LeRoy’s JUSTIN MORGAN and ALEX MATLOCK for medalist honors with a 43. The GCMS duo of AUSTIN PERCY and AXEL DORAN rounded out the top five, each carding a 44.



n St. Joseph-Ogden 3, Iroquois West 0. MATT TANKERSLEY scored a goal and assisted on NICK KNEER’s goal in leading the Spartans to a win at the Sangamon Valley Conference tournament in Gilman. BJOERN VOLL also scored for SJ-O.

n St. Thomas More 5, Watseka 1. KYLER JONES had an assist and recorded his second consecutive hat trick and third of the season to power the Sabers in SVC tournament action in Gilman. DENNIS FREEMAN added a pair of goals and an assist.



n At Urbana. Host St. Thomas More won 6-3 against Paris thanks to ABAGAIL DEMLOW and MADDIE KING, who each won singles matches and teamed to win at No. 1 doubles. ELLEN SOBESKI, who won a singles match, teamed with MEREDITH THOMAS to win at No. 2 doubles.

n At Decatur. Visiting Centennial rolled 9-0 against Eisenhower with TERESA BOERMA, SOPHIE KIM, WILLA OLSON, GRESSA OLSON, JACKLYN GUNN and PASCALE GRANT winning their singles matches without surrendering a game. Willa Olson/Kim, Gunn/Gressa Olson and Grant/CHRISTELLE PANUMPABI won doubles matches.

n At Urbana. Visiting Mattoon won 9-0 against Champaign Central. The Maroons’ KELLY WRIGHT won four games at No. 5 singles.
