of the Week

In a battle between schools unbeaten in Big 12 Conference play, the Vikings made the most of their eight shots, scoring twice, while Normal Community (8-2-1 overall) couldn’t find the net on any of its 14 attempts. Mikee Maniquis and Gracson Torres scored for Danville.

After the undefeated Panthers fell behind Watseka 12-6, Drew Schrodt scored four consecutive touchdowns — each one followed by a Jordan Kietzman kick — to lift PBL into a lead it never lost. The last of Schrodt’s scores came on a 20-yard pass from Weston Weber.

Coach Stan Bergman’s Chargers opened Big 12 Conference action by sweeping Bloomington at home. The 29-27 second-set triumph included Centennial rallying from a five-point deficit. Setter Lexi Hall and hitter Miaya Peacock were the catalysts.

The top-ranked Sages won a dual meet against St. Joseph-Ogden and then captured team honors in the 35th Tuscola Classic, placing five runners among the top eight. Hannah Houska, Emily Foley, Maddie Tutich, Audrey Duncan and Maggie Utgaard were separated by 51 seconds.
